Well, Dad is nearing the end, so gifted me a Colt Woodsman. First 22 auto pistol I ever shot. I carried this as a teen hiking/hunting. Well, now it's mine. Included a pretty nice holster though it's a bit sloppy as it was made for a Medalist.
I remember when he bought it, early 70's. I assumed it was new, but turns out it's circa 1950. It has aftermarket MMC adjustable rear sight. It was shooting high, but I think there's a leaf spring failed or missing. When I lower the sight it loses tension and flops. If I keep it pressed down, POA is POI. As it came, a 6 o'clock hold could work, but that's not my preference.
Anyway, I'll get that sorted out. Perhaps some new sights if I can't figure out adding tension. I'm guessing a collapsed or missing leaf spring. I believe this model 1950(?) Sport came with fixed rear. Most data says 2nd gen had adjustables, but have read some early ones had fixed.
So, that brings me to the other new acquisition. Went to the local gunshow in SW WA. I've had Ruger stainless single six convertible on my short list for some time. Makes for a nice addition to the stainless Blackhawks 45 Colt/ACP (Bisley) and 357/9mm convertibles I already have. This was from an estate and appears unfired. Original, somewhat dilapidated box. It's an '84 model with adjustable rear and ramp front (no fiber optic). Perfect IMHO. I don't think fiber optics belong on such a rugged piece. Fairly priced at $600.
As of Jan 1, WA has a 10 day wait, so it should be in my possession next week.
