My first Ruger Mk pistol

Hello All,

Well, I finally found one at the right configuration and had the cash for it. It's a Mk1 with the 7" medium weight barrel in excellent condition. Doesn't even looks like it's been fired. The pistol is in immaculate condition. The guy was a collector who had over 300 firearms before he passed away. RIP Sir. His widow put all of the firearms on consignment at a local FFL shop.

This will be my very first MK series pistol. I have wanted one for many decades and the timing was never right. I bought it last Saturday and will have it in another week. I will post pics when I get her home. So excited. Now to find some spare mags and an original Ruger hard case for it. B.

They are awfully nice shooting pistols. I'm sure you'll love it. I stumbled on a PPT MKIV a few years back. Never been fired, hard case, two mags and the speed loader for $400. DROS'd it the same day. Loads of fun and super accurate.

They are amazing pistols and very good shooters. I sold mine because I grew frustrated with the disassembly and reassembly puzzle for basic cleaning. I somewhat regret selling it now, probably should have just kept it and figured out a way to clean without disassembly, maybe blasting it with brake cleaner, adding a squirt of CLP before range sessions if needed. The trigger was amazing on mine.

MkII bull barrel (5.5"?) was my first firearm. Not very sexy but you can't fault its shooting. Once you get the reassembly down, it's a breeze.

Congrats on your find. Mental note to call around to my local shops about consignment stuff.
Just an FYI. I won't even be able to give any details about it. I have a MK S, Standard, Pre 1, I'm not sure what to call it. While cleaning, I believe I pulled the trigger. This released something inside. When I reassembled it, I had a dead trigger. I couldn't figure out what I did. Upon research, I found out it is not uncommon for this to happen. I thought I "Bricked" this pistol. It was a pain to get it back working. If I recall correctly, it had to do with a spring being released.
I'm only mentioning it because I believe the MK1 has the same issue. Sorry I can't give any more detail about it. Just be aware that there is something with the procedure that needs to be followed. I did not and it was a pain to correct.

Yes, they are great guns. I bought a mkIII about 10 years. I have a bill barrel target model. Because of its weight it is a great shooting gun. I have taught me kids to shoot on that gun and if you are ever taking a new shooter they are great for that. For myself, it is a hoot and I am always blown away by how accurate it is.

Ruger Mark series pistols are very nice guns . My favorite is my Mark 2 6” slab side stainless target model . Ditched the right handed thumb rest stocks since I’m a southpaw and put a set of smooth king wood panels from Hogue.Its a tack driver.

Still miss mk1 5.5 bull barrel I sold, had the best trigger of any mk series I have owned. The mk2 government I bought eases the sting though I suppose ha ha. I sure was tempted by a mk1 medium weight 6 7/8 ported barrel with factory box a few years ago but not for the 900.00+ price tag!

I just cleaned a MkIII 22/45 (polymer grip) and a MkIII target (metal grip) in one sitting. The link you posted says it doesn't work for 22/45 and I can only assume its because the 22/45 doesn't have the roll pin that the hammer strut support gets stuck behind. The 22/45 gave me all kinds of fits on reassembly. I had the manual in front of me as well as watched the video on Rugers website as well as a different video on Rugers YT page as well as about 4 more. the MkIII target went back together first try without issue. I'm a BMW tech so I'm used to difficult assemblies but the 22/45 was a pain in the balls.

I?ve never had a major issue with re-assembly but it always takes sooooo much time as I need to refresh knowledge with a video. I tend to not clean as often as I should.
