10/22 - trigger upgrade - hammer only question

I see a ton of 10/22 hammer kits being sold to upgrade the trigger.

Volquartzen and Power custom give the option, replace just the hammer or also hammer and sear.

Is this purely a cost issue? Any concerns in just doing a hammer replacement and polish on the rest?

Replacing only the hammer does not solve other issues that only a sear and hammer kit can address. The Kidd kit comes with the hammer and sear, a new trigger and not only makes the trigger break crisp, it also removes that take up slop because the sear has an adjustment screw in it. It is already pre adjusted at Kidd and has been spot on in the two kits I installed. I have installed and tuned many trigger kits and the Kidd is the best of the lot.

Remfire central has a video from Tony Kidd and his replacement parts to do a cheaper trigger job.
You use the stock trigger housing from ruger.
The people at Remfire say it's as good as his expensive triggers he sells.

If it were me, I'd replace both the hammer and sear if you're looking to improve your trigger feel.

I personally went down the Volquartsen rabbit hole years ago and have been very happy with them but if I were to do it again, I would definitely look at upgrading to Kidd parts.

Has anyone sent their trigger to Brimestone?

I went with the volquartsen hammer and I thought it made a pretty good improvement with reducing trigger pull. I had also polished the hammer strut.

No need to change the sear. The VQ hammer kit, using your stock hammer spring will give you a crisp 3# pull with no creep once you start shooting the rifle. No need for polishing.

I have the PC kit as well--gives the same pull but the finish was atrocious and needed lots of polishing and fitting to get into the trigger housing. The entire unit was too wide to fit into the trigger housing.

I also have the kidd hammer kit. I got 1.5 lbs (crisp) using the factory hammer spring but it is significantly more expensive than the VQ kit.

VQ regularly puts their hammer kits on sale in ebay for close to $30.00 and you can't beat this price.
