Old school is still cool according to my sons

Took both my boys to the range and their favorite to shoot out of ARs, Kidd 10/22s, Nylon 66?was my 1953 Winchester 62a.

I think I might have to get a Henry .22 for each, a second 62a, or a Marlin 39a. They both said they prefer the manual action.

A nice .22 with your kids is about as good as it gets.

I got a pretty good deal on a 39a for my son recently, late JM production but in absolute brand new condition. I was considering giving him my 39m, but I really enjoy that rifle and I?ve got a lot of years of shooting it left. Waiting for it to get imported from the UK, fingers crossed it shoots as good as it looks.

A 62a is my second favorite 22. Your kids have good taste!

They probably like the 62a as it is more "interactive".. My favorite out of those as a kid was the Nylon 66..Have very fond memory's of those..

You get that when you restrict their ammo usage.

I think this is definitely a factor with younger shooters.

My kid likes to shoot revolvers more than anything else. Went to a range and I was sure he'd want to rent the MP 15-22, but nope, he wants to rent the 617 consistently. My suspicion is that he likes loading, unloading shells, cocking, etc more than actually shooting.

My Glock with .22lr conversion kit and Buckmark are pretty much chopped liver.

Do not sell that 62a! Take good care of it and pass it down to your kids. Rossi made a 62a copy that?s sometimes you see for sale. Will be more affordable than an original Winchester.

Yea, mine too. The M66 is what I learned to shoot with. Still have it( black& chrome Apache model, circa?64). That said , I Wouldn?t mind finding a 62a.

I learned to shoot with my father?s 22. A bolt action from Monkey Wards. Made by Mossberg. I still have the rifle and my kid sister will get it when I die. She will also get the rest of my collection which includes some pistols my father brought home from WWII. (She?s into guns and reloads.)

A good bolt action 22 is an excellent start into shooting.

My Dad gave me his Rossi 62A and my son loved shooting it so I bought him his first rifle which was the Rossi Rio Bravo. He likes the lever action.

Yep, but hopefully on a temporary basis.

I did buy a nice 1941 62a now that my kids have claimed the 1953 one. Now I need a dueling tree.

Myself and a group of friends have developed a shooting habit called "22 Afternoon", it's simple, shoot the centerfire guns in the morning---have a break for lunch---then shoot just 22s, long and short, in the afternoon---very relaxing---casual fun!

Okay, substitute Sears for Monkey Wards and Marlin for Mossberg, and you and I are two of a kind. I won many a youth turkey shoot with that rifle (back 50+ years ago when I had good eyes).

I think you guys opining about youth shooters preferring the more interactive firearms are probably onto something there. I'll have to remember that with my grandson (he's only 14 months old, so I have a bit of a wait still). However, I gotta agree with sonofeugene. There's nothing like a good bolt action to teach the fundamentals... and I've already purchased a Crickett for my grandson.
