Due to the way they are meant to be held, I don't think it's possible.
Your hand HAS to wrap around the grips and the grips attach to the frame in such a way that an ambi grip is not possible because there would be nothing to wrap around if you removed both sides of the grip.

Before moving out of CA, I had several MK-IIIs, including a Competition. They were great, I modded them to get rid of the mag disconnects and the LCI, along with a new Volquartsen trigger on the Comp. I sold them before moving, anticipating a MKIV model. I eventually got a MKIV Lite and it is a blast, a lot of fun. Got rid of the mag disconnect and replaced the trigger on the Lite as well. It came with a threaded barrel and it is a popular gun to shoot with my friends when it has a can (Dead Air Mask). I posted this in another thread awhile back.

Field stripping the MKIV is eons easier and less stressful than the MK-III, just as easy as a Glock. I don't miss my MK-IIIs one bit. Get a MKIV.

Wish we could get the Lite here in Commifornia but apparently that gun is off the table because of the threaded barrel.

I currently have a Mk4 target and previously had a Mk2 6 7/8" tapered barrel target and Mk3 bull barrel target. I never had a problem stripping a Mk1 or Mk2 (I never stripped my Mk3) but Dean Wilkinson told me once to not strip my Mk2 until it wasn't functioning reliably, which never happened with any of these pistols so I stopped doing so. The frame to receiver fit had gotten loose on the Mk2 and he tightened it up for me.

I like the Mk4 target, the best shooting of the 3 Ruger targets I owned.

            I also owned a couple Mk1s and a 6" Mk2.

There is ONE MkIV Lite version without a threaded barrel: model number 43921. The only Lite model with a remote chance of making it to Roster

Given a higher budget, almost anything is available off roster if you keep a lookout.

Nice! That's a great looking pistol, I would take it in a heartbeat Ruger. If you're listening, get this one on the roster!

Right, but because off the threaded barrel, not too many come up for sale here, even as an off roster, it's still illegal unless you pin and weld or trade out the barrel? The one above that Senderfall posted though could be made California legal to sell here.

I perm attach the factory thread protectors on all manner of those threaded barrels be they Pac-lites, Rugers or Volquartsen for FFL's who bring them over to me to make them legal before the DROS is completed.

You just need to find a buyer that will disassemble the upper from the lower before they ship it so that it does not arrive at the FFL as a CA assault weapon.
A disassembled pistol with a threaded barrel is not an assault weapon.
You can even DROS it disassembled and then perm attach the thread protector or a brake before you assemble it into a CA compliant off-roster pistol.

From the factory, the trigger as compared to my other earlier examples is a mixture of creepy-meets-crap, with an offending magazine disconnect thrown on top for appeasement to lawyers and politicians. The pistol has been accurate, but is limited by the crappy trigger. It has proven reliable.

Good news is that a very good trigger is available from Apex:
Competition Trigger Kit for Ruger Mk IV Upgrading your Ruger Mk IV is easy with Apex’s Action Enhancement Kit. When installed, this kit will: -Reduce trigger pull weight to approx. 3.5 lbs -Reduce trigger over-travel approx. 50% -Reduce overall travel

I?m about to install this on mine. The video should be watched, as it takes a little experience working with small tools.

EDIT: Apex is offering 15% off through 14 December with code APEXMAS23. Shipping was free as well, NO Kalifornia sales tax either.
                        UPDATE:
After installing the Apex trigger, I am very pleased with the outcome. I have run about 500 rounds of various .22LR loads through it over three range trips, and it works as advertised. Notice that there is an over-travel adjustment screw. Pull weight is under three pounds, and for me that is plenty light enough for a .22LR hunting pistol carrier on a OWB holster. You can order the kit with either a black colored unit (as shown) or red as well. Lastly, the magazine disconnect is replaced with a machined washer, and makes re-assembly easier. No more Kalifornia interference in that regard. If you purchase one of these, watch the video first. Actually doing the job is not difficult, but you must have a bit of dexterity. I let my son do this, as his young eyes are better than mine.

Sure thing! Ruger really doesn't have to do anything other than separate the batches, and serial # the CA versions differently to submit this one. The Hunter (and this wood-gripped Lite) are two I really want Ruger to push through. I know they'll sell a ton. Perhaps they're waiting for the blued target model to slow down in sales before pushing these through.
