Had a I wonder why moment.

This morning after breakfast with my wife, we stopped by Walmart to pick up some cleaning supplies. Of course while there I decided to bump up the 22lr supply, bought a bucket of bullets and a 1000 pack of Winchester M22.

Noticed that they were very well stocked in 22 rifles and shotguns. Must of had 12 different 22 lr rifles from base models to upgraded tacticool and accuracy models. But here?s the I wonder why moment every one of them was a Savage, not one Ruger in the bunch. I?m in AZ, Ruger is in AZ why no Rugers in AZ Walmarts.

You're not going to find a Walmart in Beverly Hills or The Hamptons. The average Walmart customer wants low cost above most else. Rugers are overpriced. Savages are economical, yet well-built, accurate rifles with a great reputation.

That's my reasoning, at least. I'm not an insider. On the other hand, if that were the case, why no Rossi's or other low-cost alternatives? Maybe Ruger doesn't want their firearms sold through Walmart for some reason.

Yeah I’m guessing Savage has a contract with Walmart and Ruger doesn’t. Ruger probably has an easy enough time selling 10/22 and Ruger Americans without using Walmart.

As far as pricing those Savages seemed pretty much the same price as a comparable Ruger. Not hating on Savage by any means, very solid rimfires. Just found it a bit odd was all.

Ruger is also only sold through distributors, not factory direct. Walmart doesn't like dealing with distributors, as it cuts into their profit margins, and they prefer to squeeze manufacturers directly.

My Walmart here in Nebraska has not a Firearm in the cabinet for over 7 months now.. They claim they are still selling them, but they are going to redo the Sporting goods dept.. And have them all in the back room till they do that..Crock or not I do not know.. They said if you are looking for a certain one..They can check stock and bring it out for you..Hmmmm

Walmart doesn't sell guns in Kali. The clerks couldn't process the 4473 and got Wally in trouble with the BATF. Big 5 will be out of the gun game next year. PAX

I remember Riverside County, California area Walmarts used to have 10/22s that were special versions in stainless made for Walmart.
I'll have to check the Walmarts here

In free states I always see Ruger 10/22's of various flavors in Walmart.
