Under Federal laws...
The Tippman Gatling Gun in .22LR is a Title 1 Other.
It is a manually operated six barrel single-shot firearm.
With each rifled barrel having a length of 8.5".
Under CA laws...
The Tippman Gatling Gun in .22LR is a CA legal off-Roster multiple barrel single-shot pistol.
CA considers it a "handgun" because the barrel lengths are less than 16".
^CA DROS = "handgun, pistol, four or more barrels".
Because it is an off-Roster handgun, a CA FFL dealer can only legally transfer it via exemption (LEO sale, PPT, out-of-state intra-familial gift, out-of-state operation of law transfer).
The ammunition feeding devices, 50 round belt and 100 round belt, for it are considered large capacity magazines.
Therefore, only an exempt person can legally obtain them in CA.
Non-exempt persons are limited to 10 round belts.Last edited by Quiet; 08-25-2023, 6:33 PM.sigpic

The ammunition feeding devices for the .22LR Tippmann Gatling Gun did not exist during the time period when it was legal for non-exempt person to acquire large capacity magazines.
Saying you obtained it during "Freedom Week" when it did not exist during that time period, is reasonable suspicion that it was obtained through a non-legal manner, which allows it to be legally confiscated as a nuisance item by CA LEOs. [PC 32390]sigpic

I was specifically responding to the very general (and I suspect rhetorical) statement, “Even rimfire mags are banned? That sucks.” It’s even quoted in the post. The ammunition feeding devices for the .22LR Tippmann Gatling Gun did not exist during the time period when it was legal for non-exempt person to acquire large capacity magazines.

Don't forget that most mags have a DOM code on it somewhere as well. The ammunition feeding devices for the .22LR Tippmann Gatling Gun did not exist during the time period when it was legal for non-exempt person to acquire large capacity magazines.

See a few posts of guys saying "how they gonna know when I bought it??"
Well... in a lot of cases the magazine itself will tell them.Comment

Be honest. How many times has law enforcement ever questioned you about your Freedom Week magazines? And if you claim they have (which I would have a very hard time believing), how many times have they looked for a DOM code on any magazines that you identified as Freedom Week magazines?
If the ranges you go to are seriously not chock full of people using Freedom Week magazines, go to a competition anywhere in California. It will be a real eye-opener for you. Heck, I even carry Freedom Week magazines with two of my three carry guns on my CCW permit, and no one from my IA or certification classes has ever even asked where or when I got them, let alone checked for a DOM code on any of them.Last edited by Mayor McRifle; 09-02-2023, 7:51 AM.Anchors Aweigh

This (Tippmann 9mm Gatling Gun with 16" barrel) is a CA legal manually operated other firearm and it is CA legal to use your lawfully owned large capacity magazines with it.
^ATF 4473 as "other" and CA DROS as "long gun, other, 4 or more barrels".sigpic
