That’s a hell of a lot of glass for a 22lr, I have two Vortex Viper PSTs a 18 and a 24 but they are on a 6.5c and a 308. Really nice reasonably priced long range optics in the $900-1100 range.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

That is a lot of scope for a 10/22.

I run a 4-16x Diamondback on my CZ, it is pretty good, only issue is that the parallax adjustment is very stiff. More of a lower budget scope, but I didn’t fewl like dropping 1k on a scope for 22.

Yeah its probably overkill but i got it for $250 at sportsmans warehouse i just decided to get it. I probably wont use the max magnification.

A 12x scope is about the max I would consider running on a 22. I run a 9x and can still see those teeny tiny impact holes in the paper at 100 yards. A 12x might be able to read out the hits at 125 or so, which is about where the groups on a 22 LR really start opening up

I run a Leupold VX3i 6.5-20x40 on my Kidd Supergrade, and another on a Remington 700V in .22-250. I don't often use the highest magnification on them, but sure enjoy them both. I have an old 8-32x50 Tasco World Class Plus (Japanese made) on another .22-250. Not as good as the Leupolds, but darn close. It's killed a lot of ground squirrels at 3-500 yards over the last 35 years....

OTOH, I bought a Bushnell dawn-to-dusk 6-24x40 AO for a couple hundred bucks a few years back. Literally gave it away last week, as it was usuable but not enjoyable. Sometimes you find some pretty good glass for cheap, but not so much since Nikon quit the scope business. My current favorite cheapie is the Mueller 4.5-14AO APV, but I generally leave it set somewhere in the 8-10 range. Very consistent scope - the eyebox blanks out if you move just a little off perfect, so you tend to avoid inducing errors.

I have come to appreciate adjustable objectives, so much so that I only have one non-AO scope on a rifle. It's a Leupold VX1 2-7x28, on a Henry. Great match.

One of the advantages of high magnification on rimfire rifles is not needing to use a spotting scope. With 16x+ at 50 yards, you can see where the shot lands right after you pull the trigger. Its mostly convenience though. There’s drawbacks to using such a high magnification and that is the amount of movement. High magnification makes for a jittery reticle. Probably won’t matter much if using bags or bipods.

Agree my three scoped 22lr are a 3-9 BSA on a semi-custom 10/22, a 3-12 Bushnell on a Ruger American and a 4-12 Athlon on a Ruger Precision 22mag. I consider all of them to be over glassed for what they are. I almost always use them all on only 4-8 power.

I do not own that particular one, but have other Models from Vortex.. Great optics for the money.. And they have a unconditional warranty..Smash it with a sledge hammer..They will still replace it..

Lifetime unconditional warranty is good for a lifetime, or till the Company goes under or gets new management LOL

I own one and it's on top of my CZ 455. At the price point you got it at, it's a great bang for your buck purchase. It's an older Vortex, so it lacks the bells and whistles found on Vortex's entry level overseas offerings, but in my opinion the glass is a bit better to my eyes. It's also a pretty rugged scope and clear enough for the price point. As prior mentioned, the mag is overkill but it's nice to have to spot or use to see impacts on paper out to 100 yards. It's a pretty rugged scope and clear enough for the price point. My only gripe is the 50-yard parallax and MOA reticle/adjustments (I'm more of a MIL person).

I know this thread is about the Vortex Viper, but I put a Tasco 4x32 on my 10/22.

I had Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 6-24x50 FFP MRAD scope mounted on my modified CZ 455 and I was planning on mounting the same second scope on my Tikka T3x CTR.
But, then I decided to upgrade all my modified .17 HMR, .22 LR rimfires and 6.5 Creedmoor Tikka T3x CTR to Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 FFP MRAD, just so that I have commonality across my rifles. I don't have issues in having high magnification scopes on my rifles, especially if I am trying to stretch the distance.

With Vortex Viper PST Gen 1 6-24x50 FFP MRAD scope:

I've got a Vortex 6.5-20x44 Vipe on my BRNO model 4 .22lr. A fine combination IMO. Glass ain't bad and the clicks seem to be right on and repeatable.
