    fake can explosion?

Will a Ruger 10/22 experience any problems if I put a tube of larger diameter over the barrel, extending the tube past the barrel? The tube will be about 3/4 inch in diameter.
    Any ideas?

be EXTREMELY careful with that as to make sure you do not reduce the report of the rifle by even a fraction of a dB, to any direction.

NFA laws are quite enforced strictly in this regard.

Fake cans usually DO NOT extend pass the muzzle for the fear that even the TUBE might reduce the report by just 1 DB.

Thread the barrel and have a real fake can, One that DOES NOT extends over the muzzle and pass the crown

Yea that's a concern. Is there anyone in Sacramento that will make a custom one for me? It needs to be inexpensive (college student). I'm not sure of any exact dimensions yet becuase I will be fitting a 10/22 into a MG42 barrel shroud and mg42 receiver (square tubing), but the end of the 10/22 barrel does not extend all the way down to the MG42 barrel cone.
        Any ideas?
        Thanks!

'Custom' and 'inexpensive' are almost always mutually exclusive.

Check out metalworking classes at your college and try doing it yourself.

Hmm... any local community colleges with those programs? I know it'd be a PITA, but I'm sure you could swing it if you're really interested (Lord knows I am!).

Can anyone esitmate how much it would be to just tap a rod of any material strong enough for a .22 and to thread it, along with threading the barrel?

I'd like to, but I have no car and really no time between 4 classes, work, research, and volunteering.

Try the art department. I guarantee you they have metal working and welding equipment.

isn't a cheap lathe at least a couple hundred bucks?

Also, what if I got one of those flashider gimmicks and extended that a little bit?

They have machine shop classes at WLA College. You might even see some fellow Calgunners there!

What if I get one of those bolt on flash hiders for the 10/22, and then connect a tube onto the end of the flash hider?
                          Will that be legal?

I go to UCR and we have an Engineering shop here. All you need to do is pass the safety class and you can use all the machines. Maybe UCLA has something similar?

So, what are the legalities regarding me making and installing a compensator like this one:

I'll be making it out of copper tubing.
