Would a .22 penetrate and kill a python?

This year is almost over, but never a better time to start planning for next year than now.

Is the tool legal to use in the area?

Firearms are prohibited during the event in all locations. Air guns and captive bolts may be used to humanely kill pythons at any time of day or night. Air guns may not be used for the take of any native wildlife at night.

It says some air guns are allowed, but I'd rather have something self-loading. I think I'd carry a gun anyway in case one got hold of me.

I mean, most of those reality show alligator hunters kill some pretty big gators with a .22. It's all about shot placement. If I was limited to an air gun, I'm pretty sure I'd use a PCP rifle rather than your average Daisy multi-pump.

Those gators are hooked and usually the people are in a boat and the gators in the water. It's a fairly stable situation considering they're only a foot away. The python situation would be different.

I killed this 14 footer with my trusty cold blue steel Daisy Red Ryder when I was a kid.. Just kidding, I bought it at a Garage Sale already dead..LOL

Not sure if it a Python or Boa.. But I could not get it all in the pic..Room is too small..

I don't know... Colt builds those Pythons pretty strong. Might take more than a .22 to do it in.

Aim for the head, you should be able to kill a python snake with 2-5 shots no problem using a good revolver or a semi auto like a Browning Buck Mark or one of those Ruger Mark Series

A body shot with a big python would be no guarantee of a kill. Those are strong muscular critters.

My brother used to own snakes for a pet. He used to have pythons, boa constrictor, one anaconda, etc. etc. He would bring them out of their glass cabinets and offer to all of us to stroke and pet those stupid animals. He would also buy mice and feed them to the snakes for our entertainment. I've always thought back then that my brother had some form of mental illness for having such a " hobby ".I even thought he was under demonic possession for desiring to own snakes as pets!

My nephews and nieces had fun indulging his offer, especially relishing watching the lightning fast speed when they kill those mice then greedily swallow whole. I never f..... stroke or touch them as I was terrified out of my wits just looking at and in close proximity to those cursed animals.

All the grown ups were afraid of them snakes and in our mind those shouldn't be kept as pets.

Also glad he was over that phase in his life. That was around late 1980s to around 1999.

A machete would dispatch any python pretty quickly.

I’ve shot but one snake. We had a wounded rattlesnake at our winery. Looked like a hawk cut him up pretty good. Anyway…

After a couple hours it was obvious he didn’t want to leave our parking lot. One pellet from an air rifle ended the standoff. The shot was middle body. Snake died instantly.

Can’t imagine a python would be much harder to kill.
