    Ruger SR22 Guide Rod Upgrade

Just bought a Ruger SR 22. Looking to upgrade the guide rod. Any suggestions? Saw two companies Galloway Precision and Tandemkross offering a guide rod. Which one would you buy? Leaning towards the Galloway Precision guide rod. Heard a review on the tandemkross guide rod getting bent. Any ideas? Oh yea and here's a pic of my SR22! Love this thing been waiting 10 years to get this!

The stock guide rod/spring works very well, my new sr22 eats everything! I picked up a Tandemkross
because I like their products, but haven't tried it because it runs great RN.

I had a Galloway captured guide rod/spring for a Walther P22 that didn't help at all.

What benefits do the aftermarket GR’s give you in the SR22. Do they help with reliability or wear on the frame. Or is it to add more weight to the front of the gun.

What are all the shortcoming you are finding with the stock rod?

"Heard a review on the Tandemkross guide rod getting bent."

So aftermarket rods fail while the stock Ruger parts, as in the 10/22, continue to chug right along.

I want less wear on the frame and the slide not to whopple around. Dont care about weight. Also reliability. Dont mind keeping my oem factory guide rod.

I did put a aftermarket one in my Wifes SR22 years ago.. I do not know if it was worth the money or not. And I do not know what the deal was with Hers.. It did a very strange thing whenever she shot it. It would fire the first round great. Second will malfunction. Clear that and the last 8 would run fine.

To solve the problem I just had her load 8 from the get go. Never a problem with just eight. Ruger even sent out two brand new mags for free. Nice of them. But that did not solve anything.

So the ultimate fix was to get rid of it, just give her one of my Berettas.. That was hard to give her one of my Berettas, but whats a guy to do..,LOL

That I can understand, did not know that was an issue with the SR22.

The first run Taurus TX22?s had a problem with the recoil springs, they allowed way too much battery on the frame. Often chewing up the plastic, it also caused several slide failures as the front of the slide would actually break off where the spring rested.

At some point Taurus fixed the problem with new improved OEM recoil springs. I?m pretty sure mine had the new one, but bought an aftermarket just in case.

Did a Galloway immediately upon acquiring 22SR and very happy with it. It just makes assembly easier, although stock spring works much better than stock Walther P22 spring, which I also replaced.

i put a galloway guide rod on my sr22 4-5 years ago. it?s actually screwed together, which i only learned when its cap unscrewed after 500 rounds and jammed the piece. i went back to the oem guide rod, after 10,000 rounds no problems. the galloway was a waste of money and a source of panic. don?t bother tinkering with the sr22, it?s excellent out of the box.

I have the galloway rod in both my SR-22s. Never had a problem. Added a little weight to the gun.

Shop NDZ Stainless Steel Guide Rod for Ruger SR22. Precision-machined upgrade improves durability, smooth cycling, and reliable pistol performance.

I didn't want to replace/change the spring , only wanted to replace the plastic guide rod...this fit the bill.
