1st range report Ruger Precision 22LR and MRAD system

I rarely shoot rifle and I figured 22LR is the best way to get into precision shooting because of ammo prices

    This shooting is hard lol

I figured sighting in at 50 yards should not be bad but man that bullets drifts when you fart [emoji100]

I shot 5 or 6 rounds on each target. The first shots were Norma ammunition which shot ok. The second set was horrible. This rifle did not like Federal ammunition at all. Once I noticed it didn?t like this ammo I used it on my buckmark 22LR since that handgun doesn?t like Norma at all

I have CCI Ammo,Winchester and Aguila I need to test out as well.

This is the first time I shoot MRAD scope system and I messed up during the initial sight in. I was shooting 6 inches to the right and after adjusting I was shooting 6? to the left now 🫤

    I was adjusting completely wrong

Then I remembered I?m supposed to adjust 3.5 MILS according to where I was hitting and BAM, I started hitting the center. I think I might like this MRAD stuff after all.

    Ruger precision 22LR $535 OTD
    Vortex Venom 5x25x56 $400 OTD
    Vortex precios high rings $80
(Medium rings wouldn?t clear hand guard)

I need to learn how to use a ballistics calculator so I can shoot 100-150 yards in the future.
Any tips on how to get better?

    Norma

Federal ammo shot bad. Here?s 6 different sets

Out of all the ammunition I see you posted, the only two I can see that are of better tier are Norma (RUAG) and CCI Standard. Federal is considered a bulk pack ammo and the accuracy is, well, sorry to say, not great. I attached an example of three 50 yard groups of Federal and one group of Wolf Match Extra (Eley Club). Same rifle, shot off lead bags, just different ammo. Guess which is which?

As far as MRAD scopes go, 1MRAD = 10cm @100 meters. Meters are slightly off from yards, and centimeters are not inches. So there's going to be some conversion. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this as I avoid MRAD scopes.

I?m going to say the federal is the bottom left group [emoji2]

      What rifle were you shooting?

Correct! (Sort of). The rifle => Marlin 981TS. Bolt action, tube fed, Nikon 3-9x mounted with stamped stainless steel rings.

I'm confused why you're using linear measurements (inches, cm, etc) to adjust when you should be using angular measurements (milliradians, minutes of arc). That's one of the advantages of a ffp scope such as the one you have.

For example, if your impact is hitting 3.5 dots right, then crank the windage 3.5 left. That's it.

Regardless of distance, regardless of magnification. No need to count grid squares, no need to convert to inches, no need to calculate the range, and no need to double (or halve) the adjustments because you're shooting at 50 instead of the artificial standard distance of 100 yds, and then converting again to meters.

I guess you missed the part where I said I realized I was wrong and started doing what you?re asking me to do.
