Need some info on 10/22 stocks

I'm pretty new to the 10/22 world, but decided I want to tacticool out a 10/22. I have a question regarding stocks and barrel channel sizes.

Through all the "tactical" 10/22 stocks, I decided on Tapco. Cheap (at least cheaper than an Archangel or Christie and Christie stocks) and has the features I want. There are 2 Tapco 10/22 stocks, 1 for standard barrel sizes, and one for .920 barrels which is a little more expensive, but with a couple features the other lacks. Those include side rails, a buttstock pad, and an improved aesthetic.

My question is, will the more expensive bull barrel stock be compatible with a standard sized barrel?

Should be compatible. Might actually be better as it would free float the barrel.

I took the original one that fit the regular barrel and bored out the stock to freefloat my 10/22. Quite happy with it.

A buddy of mine bought his 10/22 with the Tapco stock on it using the standard barrel. It's an ok system, don't care for the plastic rails. If mounting a scope on it, use higher rings cause the front bell of the scope will hit the top rail thats part of the front handguard area. I'd personally go with the one that uses the bull barrel if you decide you'd like to change the barrel out.

Thanks, this is what I was thinking, just needed some confirmation.

I'm planning on mounting a cheap Barska red dot on there.

That's what I have on it. Works great. My kid loves it.

Just got an interesting reply from Tapco.

            afro,

Our stock for the 920 barrel will only work with the 920 barrel. Our regular 10/22 stock will work with all ruger standard barrels.

My brother has one in FDE which fits my 10/22 (with a fluted bull barrel) and his regular one.

Could it be that Tapco doesn't know what they're talking about?

Complete baloney, although your stock sporter barrel will look out of place in that huge channel.

I'm just going to say this now, because you'll quote me after you've made your purchases: Avoid Tapco like the clap, and Barska like the plague.

If you want to go cheap without going silly, get a Hogue stock and a Mueller APV.

If you want to go mall ninja, pony up for a Nordic and a SS 10x.
