    CCI Clean ammo?

Is this stuff any good? Spec wise it's similar to Minimags.

I'll look on YouTube for reviews but thought I'd ask here too.

    CCI Clean
Is "Clean' the actual name of the product? If so, I have never heard of it.

In my experience, there is no such thing as clean .22 ammo. .22WMR is pretty clean, but the .22 LR I've used, no matter what brand, is dirty.

      I've shot this.

CCI basically took a lead round and plastic coated it, so it doesn't get the bore fouled full of lead. Not to mention no more lead all over your hands from handling .22 rounds as well. Good idea, the only downside is the extra cost, and that very few companies make plastic coated bullets.

Shoots about the same accuracy as all the other HV rounds, like CCI minimags or CCI AR. I didn't get a chance to shoot the standard velocity version of this, although they do make it.

You do pay extra for the plastic coating, though, these cost a bit more and a little harder to find than the more common Standards, MiniMags, Quiets, etc.

Yesterday I was shooting my 617 using CCI and Browning. CCI seemed to produce just a little more smoke than the Browning. BUT, both produced a big cloud that obscured the target for a moment. Those of you who reload; can you explain why one can produce a round in 9mm-.45 that puts out just a little smoke but a 22 produces a large grey cloud?

Clean .22LR is dependent on the gun. Semi autos and revolvers all get dirty. My Henry does not as all the dirt is chamber or barrel. Cleaning that takes 5 minutes.

            If anyone cares

I got my hands on some of this stuff. This is a brand new SR22 (on roster), never fired, before and after ~150 rds. Coated red nose, 40 grain/1235 fps.

The NRA put out a couple of articles on the ammo... Wringing Out CCI?s New Clean-22 Rimfire Loads

              Tested: CCI Clean-22 Ammo

They decided it was, in fact, cleaner (not necessarily 'clean'), but that it wasn't necessarily any more reliable or accurate and that it costs more. If I had to pick a paragraph... from the second linked article...

...While some will chide Clean-22 because it was not as accurate as its peers, one mustn?t forget the primary intent of this new offering - cleanliness. Indeed, the results revealed that it was equally, if not more, clean than its copper-plated sibling, and far better than the traditional lead bullets. The time you save not scrubbing your bore and suppressor can be used for better things, such as enjoying shooting your rifle instead of constantly cleaning it...
My sense is that it's addressing those who value their time over monetary cost. While it might offer an advantage to those who have firearms with tight chambers, I'm not sure it really offers much for my purposes.

I clean every gun after each range session generally so the extra cost would be wasted on me. It's still going to be dirty, just not as dirty as regular ammo so what's the point? Perhaps if you are a high volume shooter and shoot a lot of rounds and get lead and copper build up in the barrel? But as far as general cleaning, doesn't seem like that great of an idea.

Are threads asking about "clean" ammo like threads asking what the best gun oil is?

You're still going to have a dirty firearm after putting rounds through it.

Yes. Similar to the ones about “what’s the best gun cleaning fluid.” Where there’s pages and pages of different products people swear by, and the only conclusion is that cleaning your gun is good for the gun.
