    Go-to method for finding parts?

I'm trying to find some parts for my ruger 10/22 and I didn't realize how overwhelmingly vast the selection of parts is online. How do you guys deal with all the various brands, companies and junk? Any recommended sites or stores in cali that make it easier?

    Thanks

For the 10/22 platform, my go to is Kidd Innovations, best triggers, bolt parts, etc. I have a Kidd complete rifle and the difference between it and a stock 10/22 is night and day, about as accurate as my son's Anschutz bolt action competition rifle.

For my past MK-IIIs and my current MK-IV handguns, Volquartsen and Tandemkross are the companies I deal with.

It all depends on what you want, as you say the selection is endless. But some parts are much more commonly recommended than others, and when I've gone with those parts I've generally been happy with their performance. Really other than tolerance stacking issues I can't say I've been too unhappy with just about anything (although I found the highly regarded bx trigger to be a bit more fragile than I'd like, but that's just me). The other thing to consider with the 10/22 is that there are many parts which are just fine, but people will happily sell you an expensive "upgrade".

What aspect of your 10/22 are you trying to improve? Identifying that is pretty key.

OP, if you can be more specific on what you need, it would help. Are you looking to customize or just repair something that’s missing or broke? There’s literally dozens of companies making after market or replacement parts for a 10/22 and some are going to better than others.

It’s been a while since I’ve built/repaired mine and went with mostly Volquartsen parts for the internals. They’re definitely worth looking into but Kidd is at the top of the list too. I went with Green Mountain or Volquartsen barrels and have no regrets but Kidd and others make some good stuff. I went with a Hogue overmolded rubberized stock for my hunting 10/22 and couldn’t be happier but I also like my Boyd’s stocks. Optics are another conversation entirely. So many options, depending on your needs.

Tell us what you need and your intended uses and we’ll chime in.

A lot of vendors extend dealer discounts to 03 C&R FFL holders, so I usually look there first. Front-runner for me is Numrich Arms - especially for milsurp, older rifles, and odd ball parts. Surprisingly, a lot of parts for modern stuff can be found on Amazon, so if you're a Prime member that can work out. eBay is also a good source for searching.

Other than that a general Google search for the part in question, then winnowing down the results based on price, shipping costs, availability, etc.

            10-22 parts on Numrich:

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I usually mail order from Midway, Natchez, or Brownell’s. Visit Rimfire Central to get tips and see what works, and what’s crap.

Volquartsen makes really good after-market parts for the 10-22...

Single best upgrade IMO is a Volquartsen bolt release. And it’s cheap. Eliminates the second bolt hold open button.

New out of the box my 10/22 had failures to extract. Installed a Volquartsen Exact Edge extractor and have not had a single problem with extraction in 15 years and thousands of rounds.

I guess just common beginner friendly changes? I got a bx trigger and some extended magazine grippers as well as the nylon buffer rod so far. I've been eyeballing the bolt hold open but it's not compatible with the hta 90/22 i have on it.

If you only do one thing it's got to be Lil' Crow Gunworks recoil lug.

Heck, they will even install it fir you!

The GRX solves the chronic accuracy problem with the 10/22 platform by focusing the recoil to a lug similar to a centerfire rifle. Helps to eliminates fliers and improve accuracy. installed by replacing the factory barrel retainer and fitting and glass bedding the lug into the stock.

The install is pretty easy in either case.

So for basic function you've improved the trigger and swapped the stock. The bolt release would be nice but isn't compatible so that's out. The basic barrel is probably fine for your usage, so you won't see much improvement there. Last thing I'd think would be the bolt buffer (mostly changes how the bolt sounds/feels when it reaches the end of travel, some folks think it might be more reliable but I've never seen reports of the stock buffer failing). I like the kidd version and it's fairly cheap. You could change the bolt, but you haven't suggested the bolt is causing any issues. At that point unless you have trigger pins falling out you're basically done. There really aren't any parts left.

I mean, you've got it installed in a faux P90.

If it runs reliably, not sure what else you would really want to do with it. Tuning it for accuracy is not worth doing with it in that thing... just go for reliability. If it reliably goes bang when you pull the trigger... call it a day and spend your money on ammo.

Only thing I can think of would be to get one of the modified bolt hold-opens that will release when you pull the bolt handle back and let go... but you can modify the one you have with 3 minutes of dremel work.
