    Long range 22LR looks interesting

This month?s American Rifleman has an interesting article on it. I'm thinking it may be a fun pastime. Especially on some property we’re looking at buying.

It's an okay article. It summarizes what has been discussed in all the rifle forums in the past few years. The Vudoo Gun Works V-22 revitalized 22LR as people began pushing custom 22LR beyond 200 yards, and it resulted in more custom 22LR like the RimX, Ultimatum Deuce, Curtis 22LR conversion, and more long custom barrels of MTU or thicker contours on existing CZ actions.

The PRS Rimfire community has been strong on the East coast including Canada and they regularly push 300 yards in matches. Then we have the NRL22X matches which push the standard 100/200 yard NRL22 COF to 200+.

I saw that article too, I didn't even know that long range .22 was a thing, very interesting.

BRRC range in So Cal used to host a 200 yd .22lr prone match. Was alot of fun.

Project Appleseed offers a "known distance" shoot out to 200yds at Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. There is an event scheduled in May and October. It will challenge you and your equipment I assure you. You will need to qualify as a "Rifleman" at a regular Appleseed event in order to participate. The Skills you learn will transfer from .22lr to centerfire rifles. It's $80 well spent.

I wish there was .22 PRS nearby. I don't like centerfire bullseye, .22 bullseye would be torture.

According to the Sac Valley Appleseed event, you don't need to be a rifleman, buy must have attended at least one regular Appleseed.

I've been collecting various .22LR standard velocity ammo to do longer distance shooting.

Next month is my San Juan mountains Jeeping trip. Looking forward to try them out at 12,000 feet. I've found those very high shooting spots offer greater range with improved accuracy. Less lobbing, flatter shooting.

I went the opposite way, heavier and faster.
Eley Force is 1250 fps at 42 grains, and much like other Eley products, is very accurate.
Unfortunately, my P.C. M&P refuses to eat it, but it flat out rails in everything else I've shot it in.

You want to be supersonic all the way out to the long range target or you stay subsonic all the way out. That's why everyone uses subsonic 22 ammo.

Operavoice is correct, rifleman score is not a requirement. (Just attend a regular event.)

It is however, absolutely recommended, to have scored a rifleman on the AQT at a 25m event first, before you attend a rimfire Known Distance event.

At a rimfire know distance event, we will be shooting to a simulated 400yard target, at 200 yards, with no rest or bench, just; you, your rifle, and your sling. It is a challenge of both your skills and your equipment.

This weekend (6/10/23-6/11/23) there is a 25m event in Sac https://appleseedinfo.org/schedulemap/ and it looks like there is still room. Come, attend, for Liberty, and to learn about your American Heritage of skilled rifle marksmanship.
