    Remington Model 6

I think it is a little #6, but not 100% sure..The barrel is marked with a serial number on the underside of the barrel just in front of the forearm S 269723

Underside of the stock is marked with the same serial number..The old Rife does NOT seem to have ever been refinished..But there are NO markings on the side of the Receiver at all..It maybe shows some case color possibly....Were some Receivers not marked? Maybe it was just cleaned a long time ago and marks on the receiver removed...Seems most I have found the receivers are marked..

It also has a somewhat cheap type of stamped tang flip up peep sight..Thanks for any input and maybe a possible date of manufacture..I appreciate it..

In front of the rear sight on the barrel it is marked

    REMINGTON ARMS METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO
REMINGTON WORKS ILION USA PATENTED JULY 22 1902

On the top of the barrel behind the rear sight it is marked

    REMINGTON
    TRADE MARK
    22 SHORT long
    OR LONG RIFLE

I have 3 of those improved .model 6. I am rebuilding one from parts now. Just finished stock. Have to put new front sight on. Cut a dovetail for it. Need springs now.

They are kinda cool little buggers.. I just seen it on the table at the Local show last weekend and thought it would be a good one for the Grandkids this year too.

I think mine is earlier than the Improved Models existence..

I did read on another Forum that my little Tang sight is original and they were maybe special order items..

That's a #6, I don't know what they "improved" on the #6 Improved, but I've shot both, take the unimproved any day!
I have one of those tang sights and the screw, the only parts I have left for one. Worth about $50-$60 if in good shape.

The #6 is not a true rolling block. It is a small scale falling block boys rifle. The photo on the left is an example of the latest production #6 rifles. Earlier variations did not have the model...

Made from 1901 to 1933, after 1921 they had the two letter date code. Someone has a serial number database that starts about 1905, 284,6** was 1916, so yours is a couple years before that.

          Thanks Trapp

That is kinda what I was thinking..The sight may be worth as much as the little Rifle..Grandkids will have some fun with it though..

Only the grandkids having fun, grampa? I recommend High Speed Shorts for the best results.

It would probably be kind of fun shooting CBs in it..
