Bergara or Ruger

I have the Ruger in .22 Mag, it's OK for the price point, but I would go for the Bergara for a better made gun. If the Bergara was in production at the time I would have bought it.

I own a Bergara in 6.5CM. It's the full stocked version, with adjustable pull and comb piece. Trigger is excellent, routinely make 450 yard shots on 8 inch plate. I don't do much long range, but have rung steal at 1400 yards when the opportunity arose. I give the gun (and glass) most of the credit as I am a mediocre shot. For the money it is very impressive.

Take a look at the offerings from CZ. I have no personal experience, but posts I've read by folks who have them give them high marks.

I had a chance to handle, but not shoot a Bergara in .243. Very nice rifle and the action was buttery smooth.

If you go to Rim Fire Central to the CZ Forum, you will find a lot of praise for CZ and also a lot of disappointed CZ owners. It seems the quality is hit and miss. I can say I like my two Brno's, but they are 1951 and 1958 vintage also.

I have a Ruger American with an 18” barrel but it’s in 22LR, I have a 4-12 Bushnell Trophy on it. I’m really happy with how well and tight it groups even with plan old bulk ammo. It’s also nice to have mags compatible with my other Ruger mag rifles, fun to load up a 25 round mag and blast away.

In 22 mag I have a Ruger Precision with a 3-12 Athlon Talos on it that thing is a Tac driver and 15 round mags are really nice. I’ve shoot plenty of 1MOA and less groups with it at 100.

I wouldn’t doubt that the Bergara is probably inherently a more accurate rifle. But for a rimfire at rimfire distances it’s splitting hairs. The versatility, cost and compatibility, along with the Ruger still being able to out shoot my abilities makes it my choice.

With the Bergara and good ammo, he is shooting 100 yards accurately as a starting point, and can shoot out further. When you are shooting out that far, there are so many variables, and each you have to maximize: Good barrel, good stock/gun connection, good action, good optics/rings, good ammo, good trigger, good shooter, good dope. And the wind working against you at all times.

I'm looking at CZ/Tikka/Bergara for that kind of work. And if money permits, Vudoo. Nothing personal against Ruger.
PS. I'd add a KIDD 10/22 along with other souped up 10/22s.
