    Marlin 795 22lr feed issue

    Hello Calguns,

I have a Marlin 795 that has an issue. When a bullet goes from the magazine, goes through the feed ramp and loads into the chamber, somewhere along the way part of the bullet gets shaved off. I think the top of the bullet is shaving on part of the chamber. I might be using the incorrect terminology. If so, my apologies. Let me know if I should upload pictures.

The shaving is pretty significant and it happens to EVERY bullet that gets loaded. The gun is able to shoot but each bullet gets a part of the tip shaved off somewhere along the way of it being chambered.

Marlin is no longer around and I guess Ruger owns Marlin now. I tried to reach out to Ruger but didnt have much success. Do I need to see a gunsmith? What are my options.?

    Thanks

    Eugene

I would think to first rule out the magazine. Have you tried multiple magazines? Does it do the shaving with only one or multiple magazines?

Any damage to the feed ramp?

    Pictures might help...

Check chamber mouth for sharp edges.
Smooth off the sharp corner edges if found, take off just a little / enough to break the edge.
Also check the bottom of bolt face and any steps or ledges on bottom of the bolt for sharp edges.

I've never owned one myself but this YouTuber says the easy solution might be that some people over tighten the two bolt/screws that hold the stock to the receiver and you should just keep them loosely snug / not tightened too much...

And this second video tells you how to polish the feed ramp.

I don't know that either one of these problems are your gun's issue because there are plenty of other videos on problems with Marlin Model 60 which is very similar to your gun on problems with the Marlin Model 60 which I believe is the same design but is tube fed instead of magazine fed.

Hopefully someone here that's owned one of those types of Marlin 22 rifles might be able to give you more ideas to look at.
