Aluminum 10/22 trigger housing - upgrade options

I went shooting this weekend and I pulled an old 10/22 out to shoot.

I really thought the trigger was broken as it's a very heavy pull.

So I was sleuthing around and looking at a variety of 10/22 trigger options

I saw that some are only for the polymer trigger groups.

I have an old 10/22 with an aluminum trigger housing.

What are the thoughts to upgrade the trigger to something with a clean 2 1/2 or so pound break?

It has a bull barrel and I am use to 2-4 pound triggers on my bolt guns and AR rifles.

A buddy has a new KIDD 10/22 and I was disappointed with his trigger.
    Still a very heavy break.

My old 10-22 with an aluminum trigger housing has a 7# pull. I replaced it with the Rugar polymer trigger group @ 2 1/2# pull. Works just fine.

You can get a Ruger BX trigger group for like $90, 2.5-3#. Or go crazy with a high end aftermarket one for around $275.

If you’re up to tinkering try this: https://www.eabco.net/ruger-1022-ham...g_p_13376.html

Had a friend that bought this but couldn’t put it together. I ended up doing it for him and it’s a heck of a lot better than the factory trigger pull. I ended up polishing the contact points and used a little trigger grease I bought many decades ago, Lithium grease will work also. I also installed a trigger overtravel stop to make it matchy cool like.

There are also other kits like Power and Volquartsen. Don’t skip the washer install as they take the slop out producing a consistent pull.

When I was first starting out doing hobby gunsmithing I was building 10-22 clones. I machined my own receivers and even made my own barrels. I've modified at least half a dozen 1022 trigger groups for less creep & lighter trigger pull. This included both aluminum and polymer trigger groups. When the BX trigger came out I tried one. Not only do I not spend time reworking 10-22 triggers anymore, but I've even replaced some of the reworked triggers on a few of my rifles with BX triggers. They're a really good trigger at a fraction of the cost of other aftermarket options. I'd recommend the BX trigger.

Nothing beats my Kidd 2 stage trigger that I ordered setup with 8oz 1st stage and 8oz 2nd stage.
If your buddy had a kid with a heavy pull, it's probably because it was ordered that way or somebody mucked with it.

Keep the aluminum housing and do these.
(NOTE, DONT USE THE FILE, USE THE STONE AND DO A LITTLE BIT AT A TIME, pro tip: use the same stones on the 1911 trigger job+ dremel + polish tips+, Flitz polish compound).

I have Kidd triggers on three 10-22's, and all of them are excellent triggers. I also bought the trigger with the magazine release lever, and it makes changing magazines a lot quicker and easier.
