10/22 Chambering issues -- looking for options

So I've had this 10/22 since Sept. of last year, and it's a great gun. Usually very few misfires/ftf's/ft chamber, etc. A couple of weeks ago, the gun was showing some warning signs that in hindsight, I should have heeded. At some point the gun apparently doublefed and fired while the chamber was still open (at least that's what I think happened, there were two rounds in the chamber), and it blew off the extractor and holding pin.

I thought an easy fix (a blown-off extractor, not something bigger), but after testing with dummy and live rounds, I realize now something is wrong when the round tries to chamber -- it sticks out halfway and won't advance.

Now, this seems to be a fairly complex issue, and one I don't have the tools for (I've done other fixes on my 10/22, but nothing with the barrel) -- even taking off the barrel requires something different than the tools I have.

I'm thinking I should take this to a professional -- can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the San Fernando Valley who might be able to fix this for a price less than me just buying a new 10/22?

Are you sure there is not a piece of stuck case inside the chamber?

removing the barrel is quite easy. maybe your recoil rod is bent preventing full closure. i have spare ejectors if you need one. i may even have a recoil rod. ojisan should be able to troubleshoot the problem. let me know if you need any parts. No charge.

Not totally, but I did boresnake the crap out of the thing with a thorough cleaning, and did a visual inspection from the firing end with a borelight -- didn't see anything, but it did sure feel tighter going with the boresnaking than normal.

Thanks, got his PM -- I'll try to see if we can hook up next weekend. The extraction replacement was easy, but now I'm wondering if something is damaged in the receiver or barrel -- just so weird how it was working fine before.

Does the bolt slide freely with no binding? Can you manually insert a round in the chamber with the round fully seated against the barrel? I woudn't worry too much about it. These rifles are easy to work on and parts are cheap and easy to find.

Yeah, the bolt seems fine without a round, and grips the dummy rounds well, but when it comes time to push it into the chamber, it gets lodged very firmly halfway in and will move no further (and requires some great effort to get dislodged again). It never gets a chance to get flush.

Hmm, I wonder if there may be a bit of copper lodged in there. It will be easy to see once the barrel is removed. Let me know if you want to attempt it, it's piece of cake.
