Question for Kidd owners regarding sticky safety

    Hello~
I have a Kidd super grade - Something I notice which seems odd is I cannot press the safety button to 'safe' unless I rack the bolt after firing.

Is this by design? It happens whether the mag is empty or not. Just wondering if there is something wrong with my rifle. TIA

Yes, that's the way a 10/22 works. The sear has to be in the cocked position for the safety plunger to be able to slide past the leg on the sear that the safety blocks when the safety is engaged.

Are you saying on a semi auto rifle, you fire a round, another round chambers and the safety won’t go on unless you empty the chamber and load “another” round? If so, no not normal.
      We’re just missing something here.

He is asking that with the action in the un-cocked position, why can't he slide the safety plunger to the safe position.

          Got it.
I don’t have the ability to read into what someone means, just what they said.
I guess that’s a belt and suspenders thing. I never think about tripping a safety on an unloaded gun.

On many firearms, from variety of makers, the safety only operates when chamber is loaded.
On some rifles, the safety has three positions, trigger and bolt lock, trigger only lock, but allowing for bolt manipulation and safety off.

Have you disassembled your supergrade yet? Sometimes, putting the action back into the stock, you bang around the safety...and it no longer works properly and just flops side to side.

I had to call Kidd to ask what to do lol.

When that happens the safety is rotated out of position, the safety has a groove that the spring loaded plunger, part #27 rides in. Often you can just carefully rotate it back to the proper position in the channel. The Kidd single stage trigger safety works the same as the factory item.

My Kidd 10/22 does the same. I can only engage the safety when the bolt has been racked. Nothing to worry about.
