Newish 10/22 upgrades and questions

I was gifted a 10/22 from the local BiMart in Scappoose. First impressions is that it's a cheap fun rifle. It seems that the rear leaf sight wont adjust to the proper elevation enough to get POI/POI. The front sight seems a bit canted on the barrel as well. It's reasonably accurate with the hodgepodge of ammo Ive fed it(mostly Federal bulk and Aguila) Either way i prefer a RDS to irons any day. If i were to keep it with irons I'd probably go with a set of Tech Sights.

I can't leave this thing alone so I just ordered a Volquartsen extractor for it and TacSol rear sight base/rail and cheapo Bushnell TRS25 which I think is plenty for a rimfire.

I also ordered some subsonic ammo for it-CCI 40 grain lead HP and CCI 40 grain Quick Shok plated lead HP. Both types of ammo claim 1050 ft per second. My hopes are that the extra inherent velocity may cycle the action better. Any thoughts on this hypothesis?

Have any of you run this ammo thru your 10/22s or other semi autos before? Any other recs for subs for this rifle? I no longer live in Commiefornia so mail order is still an option.

One other question....What are your thoughts on the Magpul Hunter stocks for the 10/22? I mainly want it for better sling attachment options as well as light mounting. By the end of all this, I'm sure the accessories will outprice the initial rifle cost.

you can turn that into a sweet gun. Start reading up at rimfire central. You will greatly surpass the original cost of the rifle, and may very well end up with a rifle that just has the receiver at its sole original part.

If you keep the tech sights, they are perfect for an appleseed clinic. if you go to one of those, you will learn to shoot your 10/22 well.

I took an Appleseed class up here in Oregon when I first moved up here about 6 years ago. I shot my AR15 with a red dot and missed Rifleman by 3 points. Almost the entire class had 10/22s. Appleseed taught me a lot. I think I'll go back to another Appleseed this fall. I really want that Rifleman patch.

It seems like everyone recommends an aftermarket barrel. Lemme shoot this thing for awhile and see what kinda groups I get.

Awesome man!!! I have no doubt you can shoot Rifleman with that stock gun...they preach that you can walk up with an off the shelf gun and earn the patch!

Get your peep sight on and dominate!

Cheaper alternative is to just buy a marlin mod60. But part of the fun is upgrading.

I put Tech Sights on my "newish" 10/22. Big improvement over the stock sights.

I think the archangel rifle stock is really nice for the price.

Oh and the Magpul hunter is a great stock, I just keep window shopping. Ruger has a cheap drop in trigger upgrade BTW..

I was easily able to turn a $200 10-22 into an $800 10-22.
