    Ruger Precision Rimfire FTF Solution

I recently purchased a Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle which is very nice, but I was having wicked Failure To Feed issues where the bolt wouldn't cycle smoothly or strip the bullets reliably from the BX10 magazines. Evidently this is a common problem I was unaware of, and I found some home-brew solutions online that involved modifying the magazines with hot glue and suggested the cycling problems were happening because the magazines didn't fit tightly enough. I didn't dig the hot glue fix because I use the magazines interchangeably with my 10/22s.

Fortunately, a deeper dive revealed the aftermarket Kidd Magazine Latch Plunger with a higher tension spring. This 10/22 part fits perfectly on the RPR and the high-tension spring holds the magazine securely enough to almost completely eliminate any movement in the magazine. The kit 100% solved the feeding issues I was experiencing.

It was a simple install, and Kidd even sells just the spring separately if you don't want to splurge on the entire $20 plunger kit. It could be my imagination, but it also seemed to improve the accuracy/consistency of the rifle and tighten up my groups a lot. I was on the fence about the RPR, but this fix made me a believer. The rifle shoots exceptionally well now.

I would definitely recommend this part for an RPR or 10/22 that is experiencing magazine feeding issues. I am surprised that such a small change made such a huge difference on my rifle, but springs are weird like that.

Interesting, I wasn’t aware this was an issue with the RPR. Mine is a 22 mag with no feeding problems as of yet. I mainly use the BX15 round mags with it, but also have one BX10 mag all feed reliably. But if I start having issues I’ll be sure and remember this post.

As far as 10/22s, my only one is a Radical Arms clone. It’s reliable with the BX10,15 and 25 round mags. Shot it this morning and used all three sizes of BX mags. One of the nice things about the radicle clone is that it uses dual bolt tracks, eliminating bolt canting for much more reliable feeding. Really a great 10/22 with lots of custom features at a reasonable price.

Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.
