I recently purchased a Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle which is very nice, but I was having wicked Failure To Feed issues where the bolt wouldn't cycle smoothly or strip the bullets reliably from the BX10 magazines. Evidently this is a common problem I was unaware of, and I found some home-brew solutions online that involved modifying the magazines with hot glue and suggested the cycling problems were happening because the magazines didn't fit tightly enough. I didn't dig the hot glue fix because I use the magazines interchangeably with my 10/22s.
Fortunately, a deeper dive revealed the aftermarket Kidd Magazine Latch Plunger with a higher tension spring. This 10/22 part fits perfectly on the RPR and the high-tension spring holds the magazine securely enough to almost completely eliminate any movement in the magazine. The kit 100% solved the feeding issues I was experiencing.
It was a simple install, and Kidd even sells just the spring separately if you don't want to splurge on the entire $20 plunger kit. It could be my imagination, but it also seemed to improve the accuracy/consistency of the rifle and tighten up my groups a lot. I was on the fence about the RPR, but this fix made me a believer. The rifle shoots exceptionally well now.
I would definitely recommend this part for an RPR or 10/22 that is experiencing magazine feeding issues. I am surprised that such a small change made such a huge difference on my rifle, but springs are weird like that.
