22 Magnum Long Gun To Complement Ruger Single Six

Not too long ago, someone 'innocently' asked me why I don't have a .22 Magnum long gun to complement my Ruger Single Six when I choose to use that cylinder. Well, I didn't take it too seriously, but toyed with the idea of going simple and picking up a Chiappa Little Badger in .22 Magnum just on the account of because...

It's cheap. It's somewhat 'popular' - even Sootch likes it in .22 LR...

As I said, I didn't take it too seriously; but, it has been rattling around in the back of my head ever since. Then Newsom and the State Legislature started talking about a $400 'rebate' on the gas. That's when things started 'rattling' a little louder; i.e., what better to do with 'free money' than spend it on a firearm given that $400 isn't going to go very far in terms of actual gas purchases.

So... I got to thinking, maybe an Henry Pump Action or, perhaps, a Rossi semi-auto.

Well... As I said, it's a thought that's been rattling around and hasn't progressed much past a 'thought experiment.' The reality is, for what little I'd use it, I don't think I could see paying $600 for just the rifle, before optics. Otherwise, I'd probably be unhesitating in looking at the CZ's and, unfortunately, the Henry comes very close to that.

I see this as a once-in-awhile hunting rifle and since I have the Savage Model 24, the M6 Scout, and, now, the Ruger 10/22 Takedown as 'emergency/survival/backpack' guns, I don't think I need another one to fill that particular niche other than, as would be the case with the Chiappa, simply to have the capability of a 'long gun' in .22 Magnum.

    Thoughts/suggestions?

I have the same dilemma. The only 22 mag rifle I have is on one of my Savage 24 combos and I have yet to shoot it.

The Chiappa is appealing for the price but that Henry looks sweet. As much as I’d like to pick up a nice CZ and fit it with a scope, I think I’d go for the Henry and iron sights.

I have an RAR in .22 Mag, nice shooter once you throw away the Tupperware stock that comes out of the box pre-warped. It pairs nicely with my 1964 Single Six Convertible. I also have a 10-22 in .22 Mag, but it sits in the safe mostly. I do have a Henry in .22LR for the times the Single Six has the .22LR cylinder in.

I think a Winchester 9422M would go great with the Ruger, but those are discontinued and pricey. Looks like Henry has one that looks nice:

I have to admit that the Henry pump model seems like it would be a lot of fun. I had a Rossi carbine pump in .22LR and it was a kick to shoot.

Go CZ, you can swap barrels and have .17, .22 lr, and .22 WM. They are buttery smooth, fit and finish is quite nice plus they come in so many flavors. I have a CZ Jaguar .22lr 28” barrel and am waiting on a .22 magnum barrel.

22 Magnum Long Gun To Complement Ruger Single Six

Magnum Research with the carbon wrapped barrel. Great shooters

At the heart of the MLR rifle is the one piece, forged 6061-T6 receiver. This receiver sports an integral Picatinny rail that is new for 2018. All receivers are black hard coat anodized for durability and wear. If the receiver is the MLR’s heart, its soul is the custom barrel. Shooters can select from several barrel models: patented carbon, patented Ultra tensioned, stainless steel, or patent pending integrally suppressed “TTS-22” barrels. Accompanying these options are a full selection of stocks suitable for right and left handed shooters, made from either polymer or wood. Essentially the MLR is a custom rifle at a factory price.

22 wmr is the first Henry lever I purchased.. very nicely figured stock ..mates up well with the Ruger Single Six 22 wmr cylinder

I’ve been thinking of getting a Henry .22 mag also, I already have several Marlin lever guns. I’m thinking of trying the Pump in .22 mag.
                    Any experiences good or bad?

That Henry pump action is a beautiful little rifle and super accurate with any ammo I shot thru it. It is short though, made with women and kids in mind. I gave it to my daughter.

Another vote from the Winchester 94/22. I was looking at them on GB a couple days ago.

I think you'll have quite a challenge making $400.00 with a lever or pump, especially new. There are alot of bolt 22 WMRs out there. Especially used and "off label" made by Marlin and Mossberg.

I accidentally (thought it was a 22lr) bought a tube fed 22 WMR Savage with an old Japan made 3 to 9X Bushnell for $199.00 total.

The Henry lever actions are basically Ithaca 72 reworks. Even Ithaca levers (other than the single shot) are about $400.00.

Just because Newsom might be sending out $400 doesn't necessarily mean that's the limiting factor on price. As I said...

As always, a $400 - $600 price range is a marker, not an absolute; but, very much dependent upon perceived utility. While I understand those who buy just to have and those who have the resources to extravagantly spend on things which may see very limited use, neither is 'my style.'

Oh... Used would be acceptable if it's the right firearm. I should think, in that price range, there would be a number of options in 'used.' For instance, would you go with a 'new' Model 42 in 22 mag/.410 or a used Model 24 in 22 mag/20 gauge? What about a TPS Arms M6 in 22 WMR/.410?

In other words, there are options in that style of long gun, including the Chiappa. But, would it be 'better' to go with a bolt, pump, lever, or semi-auto? Would a NIB Henry pump be a better option than a CZ bolt action given some of the issues that have been plaguing CZ in terms of their magazine availability at, roughly, similar pricing?

As I indicated, it's a thought that's been rattling around and hasn't progressed much past a 'thought experiment.' That's why I'm interested in thoughts/suggestions.
