    Calico M100

Just got a Calico from a fella on another board at a very good price..Very nice condition and was made Aug 28th 1986 according to a lady at Calico..Very low serial number..She had to research the physical paper archives and call me back with that data..As She said being that early it had to be researched that way..Very nice of Her to do that..

I just got it delivered today but did run 75 rounds through it with CCI Mini Mags, and CCI Blazer..Ran flawless and was very fun..

I ordered a clear/smoke magazine cover from them..That way you can see the rounds left in the rotary mag..Not just through the hokey little windows that do not give a very accurate count..

Will post another pic when that arrives.

I always kinda wanted one of these..But they were always overpriced..This one was not.. Thanks and if you own one..Post some pics and what you think of yours..I like it.

A friend of mine had one many years ago. It was alot of fun to shoot when .22 LR was 2 cents a round. The 100 round spiral magazine was an amazing piece of engineering. It disappeared one day. He thinks his cousin stole it and sold it for drugs.

        Thanks

So since this was made prior to 2000 is it legal to posses a older Calico in CA? Or does the flashider alone make it a no no in crazy town..

Nope, those were on the original ban of what, 1994? I think they made some nutered ones for Ca after that.

The 9mm were banned by name under Roberti-Roos, not the .22LR versions, and rimfire is not affected by the AW 'feature' ban. Will be hard to get magazines for it though, and blocking those to 10rds is beyond silly.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

Legal, and it doesn't have a flash-hider; just looks that way, but it's not centerfire anyway. Rimfire is not subject to the same features requirements as centerfire under the SB23 bill features ban.

From what I can remember about the Calico...

The key for making it run reliably is to perform the correct amount of turns on the magazine when winding it up. Too much or too little and it will cause failure to feed stoppages. Constant over winding can damage the magazine.

I forgot what the correct amount of windings the magazine requires, each caliber is different.

While looking into this I found this, which may be interesting to some:

Even those who may not know of the Calico brand likely have seen the firearm a lot. Calico’s futuristic firearms first stood in for laser weapons in the Mel Brooks’ sci-fi parody Space Balls, and later appeared in such films as The Running Man, Robocop 2, Total Recall and Star Trek: First Contact, while it was a mainstay in the TV series seaQuest DSV.

Ah, I stand corrected. In my defense, it has been 30 years since I thought about Calicos lol. Boss had the 9mm version that he registered.

The M-900 is listed. I think there were other variants but I’m not sure how they are/were marked. It’s possible some have non-named markings. But the whole point is the mags and unless you’ve already got some, blocking mags would be ridiculous as mentioned above.

What has two thumbs and is jealous? This guy. Nice find.

I may buy a spare magazine eventually if I luck into one local at a Show..Otherwise I will have to pony up the bucks and pay Calico themselves 125.00 for one..Kinda steep and hard to swallow that price though.

                            Thanks for the input.

                              make/model banned:
                              Calico M-900
                              Calico M-950

When they were make/model banned, Calico Light Weapons Systems Inc was based in Bakersfield CA. In 1998, they moved to Sparks NV, where they made parts for the firearms they made in CA.

In 2006, Calico Light Weapons Systems Inc was bought out and relocated to Elgin OR. The new owners restarted firearm production and are trying to modernize it (rails, optics, modularity, etc).
The current production firearms, designated "Liberty" (no M-900/M950 markings), would be considered off-list and not make/model banned.
