Eh. If legal where being done, a 22wmr right behind the ear is a very effective way to put down deer and hogs. An unethical shot on a deer with a 458 winmag is still an unethical shot.

Enlighten me on the reputation thing with personal experience. I know reputations can be made by two people on a forum saying something and it gets repeated by many others easily enough. Any specifics?

Priced 22 Mags lately? Any decent 22 Mag costs equal to or more than a lot of centerfire rifles.

I wonder how many people on these forums shill for companies but post as just regular members. Thats just curosity.

Blowback 22 mag has been difficult for lots of companies to produce and make reliable. Ruger tried it and couldn't do it. I'd like to see someone get them out as a complete upper that didn't end up costing around $700 because that is what is out there along with some who claim to have this or that and never get it done.

Savage has their tip roller locked traditional rifles, strange they didn't put that action into an AR style platform but maybe it's just not their market?

Not much more in ammo cost than 17 HMR but a real nice FPS and energy boost. Savage announced theirs in 17wsm in the traditional rifle format but so far haven't seen any. I foresee some political problems if someone starts building 17WSM in an AR in any significant selling numbers in CA. That nice exemption of rimfires not having to conform with certain regs would probably go right out the window.

I know nothing about Bear Creek Arsenal, actually can't recall hearing the name

I'm interested in a .22wmr upper if it works but fully aware of it's history of failure in semiauto platforms..

is this .22wmr upper available in an A2 or M4 profile?

what magazines does it take?

how would it compare to DPMS?

I got a super deal on these several years ago but unfortunately haven't tested them yet, maybe this summer..



as for ammo comparison:

plenty of CCI, Armscor, and Norma .22wmr under $0.35/rd

absolute cheapest 5.56 is $0.53/rd and not even close to the good stuff..

HK figured out 22 mag as well with the great little HK300. The bolt looked like a 3/4 cylinder of solid steel and heavy but it worked perfectly. I had one and the thing was very accurate. The same for the H&R that was available around the same time, it just wasn't finished as well but it too was very accurate and to me, accuracy for 22mag without crazy money into it is 1" groups @ 100 yards.

The Savage A22 easily does that too with the right ammo but it's delayed tip roller locked.

So it can be done, if Bear Creek can get the timing right and I don't see why not, it could be a lot of fun. I'd just hope they get it to where a variety of ammo weights could be used, especially to 30 grainers and that gets the velocity up over the typical 1900 fps or so so by quite a bit.

If they can get it to run with anything from the heavy 50s to the 30s that would be really nice. I wouldn't mind manually cycling the heavies but the 40s and the 30s are kinda a must for me.

Looks interesting...I really do not see the problem in getting the WMR to work in a semi auto..My Marlin 922M is a box magazine fed Rifle and I have never as much as encountered a Hiccup with it..Maybe the problems start when you add larger magazine capacity? I know Marlin originally made theirs the first year with a 5 round and went to a 4 round instead..That is all I use in mine..4 round..Now I can see where Ruger would fail at it,LOL

I have absolutely zero first-hand knowledge from using their products simply because after doing a lot of research on the internet over the years, Bear Creek arsenal at one point was considered the dog s*** of all AR products. Now they may have upped their game recently, but until I can read glowing review after glowing review instead of the opposite I will continue to believe that their products are substandard

I found some reviews, mostly a few years old and also some comments on other sites with some being straightforward and others anecdotal. Even on this forum there are reviews of guns made by no less than S&W where you'd think the owner was sold a lump of metal unsuitable for anything but being a paperweight with a chorus all nodding in agreement and some of them saying they'd never buy another S&W so, I take some of that cautiously.

I'd be interested in trying them out on this 22 mag upper. The videos seemed like it functioned well enough. A Lantac lower might overmatched for it but two pins and it can also be used for something else if it doesn't work out.

Someone has to be first I guess so maybe I'll try one out. I've had enough orphans in my life, what is one more but it could be a pleasant surprise?

It seems they are a number of weeks out from shipping, if I get one I'll report back with a thorough wringing out, I have just about every brand and weight of 22 mag made so it would be interesting.

Bolt mass.
It needs a lot more than most 22LR designs have room to fit to be able to keep the breech from opening prematurely with a 22 mag.
That's why you see additional locking features added to 22mag semi-autos to keep the bolt closed longer.
