Ruger 10/22 Receivers .22LR.....which is preferred for Target Application?

My Very Dear Friend just retired, and as you can imagine, he's excited to start his first build.

He wants to try his hand at an optimized Ruger 10/22 platform in .22LR. He's already purchased a bull barrel for it but he's in need of everything else....

The next thing on his list is to procure a really nice quality receiver....I've no experience with this and so I'd sure appreciate any recommendations, help and guidance.

It will be a semi-auto bench rest rifle (no carrying around, hunting or PRS type activities).

He lives here in California and is not exempt.

Which receivers should he look at...i don't know a budget so at least for now let's look at all comers.

KIDD. They are the best. Volquartsen next. Everyone else (including Ruger) tied for third.

someone mentioned to him a company that sounded like CSP, SCT or CST? He was told that it's the cat's meow because it's secured via an extra bolt?

I've got to search this a bit more.... Does that sound familiar to anyone or is it just fluff?

For reals, Kidd everything. Tell your friend to get a Kidd rifle right off the bat. My Kidd trigger is unreal as hell. Just the trigger alone on a bone stock 10/22 lit it up.

So the KIDD receiver has the option of 2 mounting bolts or the one standard per the original Ruger design. You can add the rear bolt/lug if you have a system that accepts it. The PMACA chassis gives you that option and I do use 2 mount bolts.

The chassis is outstanding. Light, rigid, simple. They have several different setups to choose from. Not cheap, but its quality gear. The KIDD deserves a top-notch platform. I do believe they are making their own chassis system as well now.

They did, I believe they've stopped making them. I have one it's a great receiver. Got my Appleseed 200 yard KD patch with that gun

If the barrel isnt threaded your throwing away accuracy.
MOA is the action mentioned by Spyder above Brownells used to sell that was slip fit or threaded. The slip fit was just over the top of the threads on the tenon.
Anschutz has press fit barrels until the original wears out then most will thread them.
The key to 22 rimfire accuracy is in the 0.043 engraving which is almost impossible to do without a bolt action. Barrel makers will put a Bentz chamber in a semi trying to get more engraving.

AMT team Challenge guns are all threaded if he can find an action.

I have the stainless steel MOA 10-22 receiver and the barrel is threaded into the action. I just checked and the MOA website appears to be down. If you can get one of these receivers, they are the best, IMHO.

I have one too. It is really great quality I was very lucky to get it on sale for 90 bucks before they stopped making them I believe. My FFL did me a solid with no transfer fee just Dros. I have seen a couple for sale so if anyone comes across one it is a good buy!
