    CCI CB Long ricochets

I was shooting some CCI brand CB longs (subsonic) ammo this morning and actually had one bounce off a wooden post I was using as a target and come almost straight back at me. This was the first time I ever shot this brand of ammo and was wandering if anybody else who has shot this stuff has had similar issues?

How close were you? They won't be coming back that fast but have your glasses on for sure.

I was too close, only about 5 or 6 yards, I was kind of surprised by it is all. These subsonic rounds wouldn't even penetrate wood? Though some of these old posts out here in the desert get kind of petrified after 50 years or so I guess.

yea 5-6 yards is a bit close.. go watch a vid of nighttime shooting with tracers.. these rounds can pretty much fly straight back at you sometimes.

Yeah, I know I was too close now. But these things are damn weak, they have a trajectory like a rainbow. I started at 20 yds and could'nt find the range so I moved in closer. Who knew that a .22 would bounce off a wooden post anyway?

I had one come back and hit my leg once. Luckily, it didn't hurt much, but I will never shoot that close again.

What are you shooting them out of? Just curious.

CB's don't have any powder in them. They're not just subsonic, they're even slower. Subsonic bullets still go around 1000fps.

aren't these rounds just primer propelled? I would imagine that and old tree trunk would actually have a flex and rebounding effect which might be more prone to ricochets.

Think safety first! Every shooter should know that any projectile is capable of ricochet off a hard target. Seriously, think before you shoot or don't shoot at all.

Come on now, I've filled more posts and timbers with lead than I care to think about. Its a standard target holder and backdrop out here, I've never had wood not absorb a .22 bullet before. Not until now that I've used these subsonics for the first time.

Me either. Lesson learned. Now to find out where these things are hitting I just got a bigger peice of paper. I found out that CBs drop like a rock and the maximum effective range is about 30 yds.
