How are these? I've had people tell me they've "heard" that they suck. I've also seen youtube reviews where people put quite a few rounds through them and like them.

PPK/S?

I inherited my father's. Snappy gun for being a metal .380. Slide will railroad track the web of your hand if you don't have skinny hands.
There is a coolness to it, and it is compact (although slightly heavy).
Not in a hurry to get rid of mine, but on the other hand, I don't think I would spend the money on one if I didn't have it.My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions. -
They’re cool, they bite your hand when you shoot them. I’m glad I have one, but I wouldn’t pay today’s prices for one. For me it’s more a collector piece I rarely shoot it.Comment

It's a nostalgic firearm for a Bond fan and my most uncomfortable gun to shoot - which is surprising for a .380. The flippy recoil makes the rear of the grip tag me in the web of my hand every time I shoot it. They don't suck, but they are finicky. I can only feed mine round-nose bullets. Anything with a flattened tip will jam.Comment

The current production .22LR Walther PPK/S are considered assault weapons in CA due to them having a threaded barrel as a standard feature.
They also are made using an alloy frame and slide, that are not as durable as the .22LR Walther PP, PPK, PPK-L, PPK/S, and TPH pistols made in Germany before the 1990s.sigpic

I see. I'm looking at .22's, not .380's, since this is the rimfire forum.
I'm looking for a small pistol. There isn't much on the market, other than the Beretta 21a. So I'm looking at that too. Awfully spendy, but it's all steel, and metal costs.Comment

Years ago, I had a blued Walter PP in .22 LR. This particular one was rollmarked Walther yet on the bottom of the butt it read "Made in France" leading me to believe that Manurhin built the pistol. Not only was it beautifully made and functioned without issue, it was also surprisingly accurate for a small pistol. I enjoyed shooting it often and regret to this day letting it go. I sold it for twice what I paid for it new. A very nice pistola!NRA Life Benefactor Member

Yes, I imagine they are. It's not the kind I'm asking about though. I guess I should have clarified.
I'm asking about the new production, presumably made in the U.S., that Quiet mentioned, all aluminum, with the threaded barrel. I realize they aren't allowed in kali, but I hoped someone that had experience with them would comment.Comment

I’ve had one for a couple of years, nice for the price. Doesn’t seem to be picky about ammo, fairly accurate, fun to shoot. With my Ruger Silent SR muffler, much fun! It’s not of the quality of the steel models, but I don’t have any complaints.sigpic94th ENGR. BN. USAEUR 75-78 / N.R.A. Life Member / SASS / Mineral County SARComment

The Beretta 21a is a little finicky with ammo. I finally figured out it likes the hotter, higher velocity .22 LR ammo. CCI Stinger's actually run the best in it.
Also, when you load the magazine, be sure you "flick" the last round loaded nose up a little or it sometimes fails to chamber the first round if you're racking the slide to load it. I prefer to manually load the first round with the barrel tilted up.
When say "flick" the last round, I usually just take my thumb and pull back on the top part of the rim of the cartridge, this will lift up the nose and make it easier and more reliable when loading with racking the slide. HTH...Comment

Beretta 21A is alloy framed. Nice gun but way smaller than the PPk/s.
I have an Interarms PPK/s in 22 lr. Best thing I can say about it re reliability is that it works even with ProMag magazines.
You might want to check out Simpsons LTD. They have ton of PPk type pistols in their C&R section. Roster exempt and Simpsons is easy to deal with, no CA issues.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

Thanks for the info!
Although it may not matter much, I'm working on month 11 of The Wait.
Thanks. That's actually not good because I had planned to use subsonic ammo. I have one from many years ago, but I haven't shot it in this century so I don't remember those details. The Beretta 21a is a little finicky with ammo. Out of those short barrels, you won't be supersonic with HV 22 ammo anyway. I put some across the chronograph out of a P22 and they were subsonic with Rem goldenbullets and a couple other "regular" bulk HV types. Thanks for the info!
