CCI Velocitr .22LR Ammo

The last place I saw it on a store shelf was 2 or 3 weeks ago and they wanted $20 a box of 50. The problem is that, if I had to bet, they sold through quickly. As much as my CZ's love Velocitor, they can learn to 'eat' more affordably than that.
15 - 20 day estimated to ship, limit 10 boxes, $9.99 per box... https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimfi...r_hp/6-47.html
50 and 500 rd. available ($10.99 and $106.99 respectively)... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1301174691
The Bass Pro/Cabela's site shows "limited stock" in the Verdi (Reno) store. $9.99 a box. But, you'd have to be in the store as it's not available for sale online.
Otherwise... No. I haven't seen it, physically, in a store for nearly a month.Comment

just curious about cci velocitor ammo. a sometimes ccw is a ruger lcr 22lr usually loaded with cci minimags or aguila super extras. i also load the lcr occasionally with stingers but get more unburned powder flash out of its short barrel. generally i reserve stingers for a longer ruger single six.
what is the attraction of velocitors? how might velocitors be that much better at twice the cost of minimags? not being sarcastic here at all, please school me.

A number of years ago, I did some testing out of a CZ 452 Lux and a 10/22 at 25 and 50 yards comparing several .22 LR loads; including the Velocitor, Stinger, and Mini-Mag HP.
Out of the CZ... Weight retention, fired into 1/2 gallon milk jugs at 25 yards...
Mini-Mag HP... 84.440%; 30.4 gr. (Did not mushroom cleanly, tended to deform/fragment)
Stinger... 90.938%; 29.1 gr.
Velocitor... 95.125%; 38.05 gr.
Max Expansion...
Mini-Mag HP... 0.322
Stinger... 0.402
Velocitor... 0.322
Average Velocity Recorded...
Mini-Mag HP ... 1358.79 (CZ)
Stinger ... 1606.07 (CZ); 1588.57 (10/22)
Velocitor ... 1385.83 (CZ); 1298.5 (10/22)
At 50 yds. from the CZ, the smallest group for the Mini-Mag HP's was 1.2" and the smallest group for the Velocitors was 0.875". (I'd have to find the targets to get the Stinger group size as I don't seem to have it written down with the other data. Suffice to say the best group was with the Velocitors.) That was with a standard trigger and the temperature was in the low 50's at roughly 5,500 ft. elevation. (Someday, I'm gonna shoot for group out of a 10/22; at least that's what I keep telling myself.)
The bottom line is that the Velocitors were a little faster, retained weight and mushrooming were notably better, and accuracy was noticeably better on that day.
I didn't have access to an handgun at that time for testing.
Insofar as CCW and the Velocitor vs. Mini-Mag HP, the Velocitor has a 40 gr. bullet, while the Mini-Mag HP has a 36 gr. bullet. The Velocitor has marginally greater velocity, but retains greater weight. The Velocitor has much greater penetration.
Are they THAT much better for CCW so as to be worth "twice the price?" Only you can make that call.Comment
