Versitle yet accurate bolt action .22

What do you guys think would be a accurate bolt action that i can switch calibers on? I'd love to get a sako quad but i cant find one for a decent price. I mostly want 22lr and 17hmr. 22 to maybe enter some matches (i know this isn't a "match" gun but it would be fun to try) and 17hmr for varmint bustin. I was thinking maybe a Ruger 77/22 w/ a 17hmr barrel, mag, and bottom floor plate but i thought i remember reading somewhere about them not being worth the coin you pay for one. You guys have any suggestions?

i don't think it would be worth the coin for one, why do you need to be able to change calibers?

its cheaper then buying 2 guns, scopes, rings, blah bla blah. One gun...2 purposes. I regret selling my Rem597 but i need a accurate 22lr too! Your saying not worth it for a ruger right?

I have a Savage MKII in .22lr and i'm very happy with it. It shoots 1 MOA with blazer bulk ammo. 7 rounds all touching at 50 yards and the rifle is STOCK. I highly recommend this rifle as it is definitely a tack driver out of the box.

what kind of a difference would it make having it in one gun vs two guns? one gun that shoots difference calibers that serve the same purpose? why not just buy one good gun and stick to one caliber?

For a switch barrel setup on the Ruger 77/22 it is easier to start with a magnum and go down to get the LR trigger guard parts (about $55 + magazine), than to go up from LR to magnum. This is due to the difference in magazine well lengths.

You have to tune the extractor to work correctly and it is part of the trigger guard group.

I have a Ruger .22 LR VBZ barrel sitting here that I am preparing to put on my 77/22 Magnum VBZ.

I am still looking for 17HMR and 17M2 VBZ barrels to complete my set.

BTW: this will not work on a synthetic stock 77/22 as the ejector is not part of the trigger guard.

Check rimfirecentral.com Ruger 77/22 forum for more info.

sorry i guess i wasn't clear on my 597.. it was a 17hmr. I miss that round but am also in need of a nice 22lr set up as well. It just makes sense to me build one nice rifle in 22lr yet be able to put on that 17hmr barrel and whack some prarie dogs in Neb. when i go visit my family a few times a year. The 22lr is needed because i wanna shoot some 22 matches soon

buy a nice 22 and latter on get a cheaper 17 as almost all 17HMR s are tack drivers.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

does everyone have something against the rugers or sako quads?
