    subsonic ammo

Will subsonic ammo function in a semi-auto? My wife has a magum research 10/22 and we have 1000 rounds of subsonic ammo. Today I was talking with a fellow shooter and he told me he didn't think subsonic ammo would function in a semi-auto. If it will fine, If not, I guess I'm in the market for a rim fire bolt gun.

What kind of ammo is it? Match ammo, pest control, etc?

Depends on the rifle. Some cycle it fine, others are picky about it. If it has trouble, you could improve cycling with a lighter recoil spring (or a lower mass bolt, which is harder to do). A revolver is another great option.

Most, if not all, match ammo is subsonic, due to the ballistic disruption that occurs when a bullet in flight drops from supersonic to subsonic.

I have .22 semi-auto handguns that choke on match ammo regularly, but most of my rifles cycle it fine. Best bet is to take it out and give it a try.

I use Aguila - it's accurate as heck and works fine in my Browning 22 semi rifle and Ruger 10/22, Win 63 and High Standard Supermatic.

It seems OK in my 10/22 but is a no-go in my Walther P22 AND my Ruger Mark II, both of which seem to have fairly stiff recoil springs. Of course it's awesome in my 77/22 bolt.

What's the FPS on your subsonic ammo anyway? Not all are made equally.

I have a GSG-5 that most of the time will cycle my Aguila SSS 950 FPS ammo (like 1 out of 7 will fail to cycle or so), but I have heard that the Remmington 1050FPS sub sonic ammo will always cycle.

Not trying to threadjack, but I'm confused by the labeling on .22LR:
"Standard velocity", "High Velocity", "Extreme Velocity", "Subsonic", "Match", "Biathlon", . . ..
If just shooting paper at 50-100 yds with a .22LR rifle, which would likely be most accurate/consistent? Would there be much difference in bullet drop at 100 yds between "high" and "standard" velocity? 32gr vs. 40gr bullets?

You totally threadjacked. start a new one with those questions.

But in any case, subsonic ammo should function in your 10/22, I run wolf and sk ammo which is all 1050fps subsonic and it cycles fine.

                    Will do, and my apologies.

1050 FPS is basically match ammo velocity. I shoot Fed GM at that velocity out of one of my modified 10/22s exclusively. Boresnake it every few hundred rounds. Keep the bolt face, extractor and breech face clean simply by brushing before you boresnake. Put a drop or two of CLP on the spring and guide rod and you should have a great time.

If it wont cycle in a 10/22 you could do this, http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...d.php?t=251031

Just do a search for your ammo and your rifle, there's bound to be someone who's tried it in one of their guns before. Oh, and if you're thinking about shooting Aguila SSS it has been known to keyhole in barrels with a slower twist.
