If it's brand new there is nothing to look for.
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

      Just kidding.

      Is it a gen 1 or 2

Inside the box there is a build date sticker. The newer the better. There is a GSG section on ar15.com that has lots of good info.

make sure the multi screw driver tool comes with it cuz you will need it to field strip and adjust your sights. you can tell the difference from gen 1 to gen 2 with the front sights.

yes you need that tool. It's orange in color. The front sights is how you can tell the difference from gen1 and gen2. If it's brand new then i guess just try pulling the bolt back to make sure it pulls back?

Hard to tell from the side view. when looking @ the front sight directly from the front of the barrel, gen 2 dosent have the circular indentations which connect the front sight to the rifle.

If the serial number starts with an "A" it is second generation.

I bought mine used a month ago from a guy in New York, sent the serial number to ATI (the importer) they said I still had 19 months of warranty left on it. When you get it, be sure and go to the ATI web sight and reg. They have a 24 month warranty on the GSG, and they are really good people with really good customer service.
