.17 HMR Pistol, CA Compliant Help....

    Hi,

I just bought an Anschutz 17P Pistol (.17HMR) from out of State and now my dealer told me that I could not register it, cause it is not legal here in California.
Is there anyway that I could make this gun legal, cause I have people suggested me to convert it to a single shot or swap the barrel to 16".

    Thank you,

    Joe.

The gun manufacturer of pistols must submit something to the DOJ or something for it to be approved for sale in California. If its not on the OK roster, its not legal for sale in CA.

But I believe the above only applies to newer handguns since the list was started. I dont know if handguns made before that are exempt.
I also dont know if rimfires are exempt from it.

Or.. i could be wrong and this is just a total waste of space.

So to make it a single shot compliant pistol, the OP will need to a) convert the magazine into a single shot sled (put a block in the magazine body so it won't hold any rounds and b) lock the magazine into pistol, right?

Please correct me if I'm wrong here but if he does item a) alone [0-shot magazine sled], it will not count because the single shot sled is still 'detachable' without a tool and can allow a multi-shot magazine to be installed, right?

I know that this pistol, even though the magwell is outside of the pistol grip, is not an AWB because that applies to semi-auto pistols ONLY.

Dimensionally, I think that's a 12" barrel so you should be OK as far as PC 2133.

      -g

      PC 2133
      (b) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a
single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six inches
and that has an overall length of at least 101/2 inches when the
handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled.
