    Weigand 10/22 scope base

I have a BSA scope with 40mm objective I'm trying to stick on a newly acquired 10/22. I also have a set of Burris low rings and this Weigand 1 piece base a buddy has. Well the low rings are just barely too low so instead of selling the low rings and trying to procure some medium rings I was tempted to just take this from my buddy and call it a day.

Anyone familiar with this product, Weigand 1 piece base? Let me know what you think of my plan...thanks!!

What's wrong with the Ruger base?

The Weigand is a good bit heavier and taller than the Ruger base. Whether a .22 scope base needs to be this heavy duty is a personal choice. If you need taller, you can make up for it with taller rings on the shorter Ruger mount.

Also, the Ruger will work with tip-off .22 rings, as well as Weaver rings. They're common on older scopes and mounts, though many .22s are moving to the Weaver/Picatinny style.

If the Weigand mount from your buddy is inexpensive, it's probably the best way to go. It's a good quality mount from a respected vendor.

Wiegand used to make both a Weaver base and a Picatinny base. The one linked is the Picatinny base, which is the only rail they make for the 10/22 now. The Ruger mount is Weaver style, with non-Picatinny spec slots and spacing.

If you're going to swapping scopes around, using QR rings and such, it makes a lot of sense to go Picatinny on everything, as the spacing will be consistent.

To do this, you'd need ring heights that would work with all the rifles you planned on swapping with. You'd also need to track the zero offsets from rifle to rifle.

This will be a dedicated target rifle and I will not change out scopes etc. The base is free and would keep me from having to purchase new rings and sell/save the low rings that I have.

Nothing except the rings I currently have are not high enough to give the objective clearance over the bbl. Therefor I buy med/high rings or take this base from my buddy and call it a day.

          Weigand 10/22 scope base

If the base is free even I could afford it. Sounds like the way to go. John johnsgunsmithing@live.com

Yeah, sounds like an easy choice. Weigand makes very good gear - it's hard to go wrong with this base, especially for free.

Thanks guys it seems like a no-brainer. You never know the quality of stuff you find in the back of the closet tho. I'm going to give him a little Uncle Mike's holster that I had for a snubbie that I no longer own, also found in back of closet, so it's sort of an even swap. Thanks again for all the info and I'll post pics when I get my rig put together!!
