    PDC Custom CZ 455

Got my PDC Custom chassis from my trusty ole 455 last December. I just got around to putting it on.

I couldve sold the 455 and and got 457 Varmint Precision, but I wasnt into the Luth AR stock and carbine buffer arrangement.

I've still got a Nikon Rimfire 2-7 scope on there that I'm going to play with, and probably upgrade the rifle to a bull barrel, and higher power scope down the line. May also put in a lightweight trigger and upgrade charging handle.

    Here she is for now.

    She's done.

Background - The base was an older CZ 455 American with a Nikon P-Rimfire 2-7x BDC 150 scope and Burris Signature steel rings.

Objective - get this 22NRL "capable". I'm not after a premium build. Capable means, getting there. Doesnt have to be in style. I want to spend a reasonable amount of money, without going overboard. I can always upgrade later, but I need to have the bones of a 22NRL rifle to begin with.

Challenges - I didnt want to buy a new scope. I shoot my AK to 650 yards with irons. I also shoot my 1-4x on my AR to 650 yards as well. I can shoot the 2-7x scope to 400 yards. It's not ideal , but its not impossible either.

Ive shot the rifle to 150 yards on a 1 inch target using CCI Subsonic. It runs out of clicks from there and the reticle is not good for shooting with substension. It's almost useful for that.

I need to get the turret to work closer to 400 yards.

The Solution - I decided to get rid of my wood stock. If I am going to shoot to 400 yards with a 22lr rifle, I can't have the spongy walnut stock. I can't prove this, but decided that this is where I was going to pour in funds. I acquired a PDC Custom chassis.

Now about the scope, the Nikon has 80 MOA of elevation. Including zero adjustments, I had 43 clicks left from a 50 yard zero. That gets me to 175 yards. After the fact, I discovered that my Burris Signature rings takes the POSI Alignment inserts. For 20 bucks, I was able to get adjustment inserts to give me an additional 30 MOA.

Everything following below is theoretical. I have not zeroed the rifle yet, but I am using the rifle's DOPE and a ballistic calculator.

With +30 MOA on the rings, I brought my zero down 15 inches at 50 yards (I will zero this at the range later). I checked the scope and from theoretical zero, I have 25.75 MOA for downward elevation. That gives me 54.25 MOA of upward elevation from zero.

If the rifle zeroes around where I have it at, I have 217 clicks of upward elevation, enough to get me to 375 yards. Thats far enough to test the platform if its worth putting any more money into it.

If everything works out, I'm looking to invest in a Yo Dave trigger spring, a Bartlein barrel and maybe a better scope. The scope's gotta have a 1 inch body though. I am not inclined to buy new mounts if this arrangement works.

    Here she is. I'm stoked.

Looks good! That reticle looks painful though lol. I would change the plan a bit and spend on a good scope first before the barrel. Keep the trigger spring near the top of course. You might discover that with the trigger mod and a good scope, your long distance accuracy is good enough to forgo the barrel for now. I know the scope can be a huge expenditure, but I think its worth it. Lobbing expensive ammo far down range with a mediocre scope maybe isn't the greatest idea. The Bushnell Match Pro would be one thing I would have picked up if I could go back in time. And of course Athlon has great offerings (Midas tac) at a good price (see camerland NY). I think a shooting session at 100 yards will be a good indication of exactly what you have.

Installing a Timney 2 pound trigger in a week, and an after market bolt handle. Will be shooting it in July.
