M&P AR15-22 Lightstrikes.. Hammer Spring Replacement?

    Hi there,

The wifey's M&P AR15-22 has been suffering from light strikes with most types of ammo, except for CCI, Federal Automatch and some times Winchester, where it will run flawlessly. I have changed the firing pin to the Volquartsen pin which helped a bit.

I was wondering if I can change the Hammer Spring to something like the Wolff Extra Hammer Spring. Or is that overkill for a rimfire rifle.

She just started Steel Challenge and CCIs are hard to come by so would like to see if this could be a solution for the light strikes.

    Any input is much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

FWIW I had to go to a heavier mainspring in my dedicated rimfire upper too. Not unusual that a little extra helps.

can you post pics of the light strikes?
Do they go bang on the second try?
Do you have a drop in trigger pack from another AR to try out?
again, make sure the firearm is thoroughly cleaned.
I would say, stick to Federal if you can, various manufacturers have higher failure rate and dirtier than others.
I have always had fewer problems with Fed/CCI

Thank you. I'll look into that.

          Thank you.

I dont have pics at the moment of the light strikes however there were times where I'll try the light striked ones on my GSG16 and they would go bang... but I would say at about a 50-60% rate - which tells me it's still definitely a light strike. The same ammo would run on my GSG with a very low failure rate which led me to think its definitely light strikes...

They are always thoroughly cleaned when we get back home from the range and well oiled.

Currently dont have a spare drop in trigger but I can maybe try to swap it with my other AR and see if it helps.

I would say though that the replacement of the pin with the Volquartsen pin helped significantly. Just trying to see if any further changes will help.
