    which one to choose?

Looking to get one 22LR handgun so that my wife can have something to shot in the range (so to get her support on guns ultimately). The only feature to look may be the one of not so picky on ammos. Found Browning Buck Mark on www.sportsmans.com. Can anybody share experience of this model? (do not want to get one that only works with certain brands of ammo, since we do not have choice of ammo now)

Also, there are so many variants listed, any suggestion which one to choose?

    Thanks in advance.

Browning Buck Mark Lite URX 22 $519.99
    Browning Buck Mark Camper $339.99
Browning Buck Mark Contour Stainless URX $479.99
Browning Buck Mark Standard URX $399.99
    Browning Buck Mark Hunter $429.99
Browning Buck Mark Camper URX 22 $414.99
Browning Buck Mark Standard URX 22 $449.99
Browning Buck Mark Camper UFX 22 Stainless/Black $379.99
Browning Buck Mark Camper UFX 22 Black $339.99
Browning Buck Mark Plus UDX 22 $469.99
Browning Buck Mark Practical URX 22 $389.99

Rent a Buck Mark to get her use to a gun for a couple range sessions its cheaper however buy her a RugerSR22 when one comes available. Buck Mark are large and clunky. Rugers eat any ammo out there and easier to handle. Also might just get a Glock 17/19 with a 22cal upper. Now you have a 22 and 9mm.

Thanks and really interested in using G17 22cal upper. Are you referring something like below?

Any experience of ammo favorites of this type of conversion kits? I heard that many 22cal guns only pick up certain brands ammo, and for my purpose, hearing the bang reliably is the most required.

      Thanks

Start with the cheapest Camper model. These are great guns, very accurate and easy to shoot. You can always add fancy grips later if you feel like it.

The only downside is that they can be a little on the heavier side.

With the 22LR there is very little felt recoil, and the trigger is very good. Makes beginners feel very confident and make good shots.

My Buck Mark has eaten everything I fed it, apart from Norma Tac 22 (which seems be a know issue with the ammo as it has issues in many semi auto 22s).

The fun part is that you will find that you may like shooting the Buck Mark just as much, they are fun handguns and tend to be very accurate. I would almost say a 22 handgun and rifle is a must for any household. Get a Buck Mark or other brand that strikes your fancy, no need to get any of the fancy models until you feel like investing in it.

I think you need to widen your scope a little if at all possible..Just saying there are many other choices out there rather than the Browning..And much better ones..

My wife likes Her Walther PPKs, Bersa Thunder for instance..She has about ten 22 Handguns. She did have a Ruger SR22 for about three years..She did like it and it worked good with the right ammo brand..But it went because it was just too much plastic for my tastes..She never had a choice,LOL.

Those are just a couple of examples. Does not show your location, so maybe you are bound by the Roster if in CA..

I recently went through this same issue, can look at my thread history. I ended up picking up a Ruger mark ii, but would have been happy with a buckmark. Basically just pick the one that has feature set you like, rail no rail, right barrel length, etc.

              Stuck on auto?

I'd consider a revolver like a Ruger LCRx. Wife likes her revolvers and if someone isn't going to shoot a lot revolvers are more user friendly.

I do love my basic Buckmark slabside. It shoots like a laser and with open sights (quite good ones I might add) and my eyes, gives my S&W 41 a run for it's money

I'm exclusively a rifle shooter at the moment but I am planning to put a Buckmark Camper in jail tomorrow. I handled one briefly yesterday and found the grips were a good fit for my hands.

There certainly are other options out there but my research suggests the Buckmark represents a good balance between features, price, reliability and the ability to pim...er customize.

                    Here my experience:
                    - Browning Buck Mark Lite URX 22 $519.99, had this with a long 7" barrel, the pistol is very light even with a long barrel. I have to buy a new barrel for this pistol because after couple hundred times of clean the pistol I stripped the thread on the barrel, the barrel is made by alloy aluminum and the screw is a steel screw, steel is harder than alloy aluminum so each time you open/close screw with BLUE LOCKTITE you will damage the hole on the barrel a little bit until the hole is totally wear-out (or strip), then you have to buy a new barrel.

                    - Browning Buck Mark Contour Stainless URX $479.99, I bought this model because I want to mount the red dot, at the time I bought this model I did not know that I can buy the top plate with picatinny rail for about $35-$80. The pistol is heavy because there is a long weaver rail on the top of the pistol. The top weaver rail has 3 screws, and if you want to keep the rear sight intact and mount the red dot then you have to buy a RD that shorter than 2" otherwise the RD will cover the middle screw then every time you clean the pistol you have to remove the RD so you can open the middle screw or do not use the middle screw at all. The Bushnell TRS-25 RD is too long to mount on the pistol. I mount the tiny Nikon Tactical Spur, with the adapter base , then it's OK.

You can compare the size of the two RD below.

                    - Browning Buck Mark Camper $339.99, buy this one, with steel barrel so the hole for top plate (or sight base plate) less wear-out or easy to strip, and this rail so you do not have the problems that I had. And if you don't like the barrel then go to Tactical Solution website to get another barrel.

FYI, if you get a Buck Mark get a bore snake. Makes cleaning super simple. I do it with my 10/22 as well, avoid a lot of hassle to try and disassemble the pistol.

Also was able to fix my Tac22 feeding issue, wiped the coating of the ammo before going to the range today and it ran through 100 rounds bo issue. This pistol is super easy to shoot and very accurate.
