Date stamp and serial number questions

There is a Marlin 81DL .22 that I want to buy, and there is no serial number or date stamp on it. When did they start to require these for .22LR bolt action rifles?

Since there is neither a serial number or date stamp, is there anyway to determine if it meets the requirements to be C&R? Or does this mean that it is likely a C&R?

I just want to know if I can legally avoid the PPT/DROS, gun lock and 10 day wait.

Date stamp and serial number questions

Marlin 81DL was made between 1940-1965.I believe the sn requirement started in 1968.So if your Marlin is 50 years old it's a C&R. John johnsgunsmithing@live.com
