Federal Punch 22lr personal defense ammo

Hey guys, I didn't see a thread on this ammo. Looks like Federal has a new 22lf with a punch..I read last night that it was s little over 1000fps out of a 2" barrel.

Nickel plated. Wonder what the effect of scrubbing your bore with a couple hundred (or thousand) rounds would be.

This doesn't have profound expansion properties. It appears to simply penetrate, which makes it similar to a 12" ice pick. How is this any better than a 32 grain Stinger?

According to 22plinkster, it has exactly the same penetration as a Stinger, but because of the flat nose of the Punch, it has a slightly larger wound channel.

I guess if you have no choice but to use a .22, the Punch is a slightly better bet.

I'll buy it and shoot the heck out of it if I find it in stock, and report back with results. It'd go great in my NAA with the 1 1/8" barrel. It usually has the 22Mag cylinder with Hornady (I think) short barrel specific SD ammo.

.22lr may kill eventually (other than a penetrating head shot) but won’t stop well.

As much as I love 22LR, wouldn't use it for HD/SD unless it is the very last option. Besides lack of energy/momentum and size, typically rimfire semis don't run as reliable as centerfire semis.

I love the CCI segmented rounds...they make them in 710fps,1050fps and high velocity and they are deadly. They break into three sections upon impact they work great on small game. I use to run the 1050's with a surpressor back in my home state while up in the tree stands waiting for deer. I didn't shoot deer with it but took out many armadillos,squirrels, and coyotes with it. I do know of someone that took deer with them and double lung shot they wouldn't run more than 50 yards. Might not stop a human right away but will sure kill them.
