everybody should have a 10/22 , there reliable and accurate enough to hunt small game . they however can turn into a money pit with all the aftermarket items availible . to get superb accuracy will require a decent bolt gun.

I'm personally leaning towards a Savage MkII. I also have my eyes on the 10/22 but I want a bolt action, I don't hunt, and I think I'd pull the trigger too fast on a 10/22 and not aim as well as I could. Yes, I lack self control .

magnum research makes one in 17hmr based off the 10/22. Also Excel arms has a pretty cool semi auto 17hmr as well

IIRC the Ruger 10/22 Magnum is discontinued and used ones are all that is available. There are some high end expensive 22WMR/17HMR offered. Remington offers the 597. The Remington maybe the only decent priced 22WMR based rifle out there.
