    Target stand

Ok, I have a target stand similar to this one. For pistols I make the wood frame to be about 5 1/2 feet tall. I want to make one for my .22lr and .17HMR rifles.

How tall should I make the wood frame for shooting off a bench at 100 yards?

    Edit: this is my stand

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I'm going to start shooting these at Prado Olympic Shooting Park. I've only been there once and that was for my CCW requal. They had a very high man made dirt back stop. I'm guessing that they have the rifle range; rimefire only, set up the same way.

I cut my 1x2’s to 6’ because they fit in the bed of my truck nicely. Depending on where or what I shoot, I try to place the center of the target at the same height as the firearm I’m shooting, whether it’s on the bench or standing. The extra length is not an issue, should you mount the target low.

You could make adjustable height vertical arms like these that would fit most all of your shooting distance requirements.
Last photo shows the recessed bolts/wingnuts that hold the two piece arms together. I did that to help cut down on possible stray bullet sparking but that's for another post that I care not to join in...

I use 4 foot pieces, if you need more height staple the cardboard higher on the sticks.
For sighting in, I staple the cardboard flush with the top of the 1x2's.

That's a nice stand. Though more than I want to do [emoji23].

                Thank you.
I still have five complete target stands for sale. They break down into two separate hand held carry units for transport or storage.
Making no more-moving on to another losing money project...
                PM if anyone is interested.

You want the center of the target at between 35 and 40 inches, give or take. The top of a shooting bench is at about 32 inches, then add some for the distance from the bottom of the forend to the middle of the scope, and perhaps some additional height for the rest.

You do not want to make the frame too tall or too wide because it becomes a sale when the wind kicks up and then you spend all your time setting it up again.

Pretty creative guys. I just nab some of those election things people stick in the ground with the candidates placard on it[after the election, of course!] Get rid of the placard, put target on and head to the desert. Easy-peasy.
