I was wondering if anyone has one of these and if so what scope base did you use. I've seen some with a big, clunky looking base that attaches to both the dovetail and over the contour of the barrel. Please post pics if you can. Thanks in advance!

You will have to be a little more specific on the model of BrowningPrevious iTrader rating, over 150 Positive ratings -
It is the ubiquitous, original John Browning design 22 semi automatic, tube feed from stock, take-down,bottom eject, Belgian built, Browning. I don't believe it even has a model #, just grade I. Sorry if I wasn't clear.STUFF I HAVE FOR SALE! SCOPE RINGS, Man CAVE FRIDGE, ETC

I bought a Browning a few weeks ago, took it to the range last weekend. Was reliable with everything, but it really likes Aguila standard velocity.
Anyway, mine came with a cantilever scope base that I presume is made by Browning. I would say it is fairly graceful looking and suited for the very small receiver, follows its lines. You have to remove the rear sight, the base is held in place with two screws set in the barrel, it is pretty solid and steady.
The base is grooved for 3/8" rimfire rings, I went with a set of Millett wind adjustable 1" rings (low) and a Burris 4X Timberline. The Burris is a very short and small scope and fits well, I think it's under 9" long. That was actually the more challenging part, finding a scope that was correctly sized for the gun.
Midway carries photos of their products, so looking through what they have was helpful. I was going to use a set of vertical split rings, they are a bit smaller, but that would require resetting the scope (reticle) any time I remove the scope and use iron sights. If you don't want to use the iron sights at all, you might try the Leupold vertical split aluminium rings. They're about the thinnest and least obtrusive around and would look good on the little gun.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

Thanks a bunch for the info. I was wondering if the existing dovetail on the receiver was adequate for scope mounting but I've yet to see any configured that way.
I've had this gun since I was a little kid and it is probably my all time favorite firearm. I have put down countless red squirrel and snowshoe hare with it over the years and it has never failed me. I love the existing iron sights but my eyes are starting to show their age unfortunately so I think a scope is in order.STUFF I HAVE FOR SALE! SCOPE RINGS, Man CAVE FRIDGE, ETC

Barrel mounts are on the Grade II and III because of the engraving on the top of the reciever. Grade I has a groved reciever and will take groved rings.....Still sold through Browning.....or you can find the vintage rings from time to time on the net.Comment

Browning patents or just Browning brand?
I actually only have one Browning branded gun (so far) but it seems most of my stuff is JMBs design. 1892, 1911, 22 auto, etc. What's your pick of the litter?STUFF I HAVE FOR SALE! SCOPE RINGS, Man CAVE FRIDGE, ETC

I'm not in the market for another one (yet!) but that sounds like a great price for a Belgian. The new japanese built ones retail for around $700.
BTW, what is your opinion on Tabors? I haven't made it in there yet but its on my list.STUFF I HAVE FOR SALE! SCOPE RINGS, Man CAVE FRIDGE, ETC
