Henry 22 LR rear sight problem?

    Hi guys,

I just purchased a Henry Goldenboy 22 and to me the sight looks way off for a starting point. I'm posting this here because I know alot of you have Henry experience and my question is mostly in regards to being new to Henry. I haven't gotten to the range yet but as this is my first Henry I would appreciate your perspective.

Does this rear sight(the diamond) look like it is centered normal? It's a full 1/3rd to the right. Shouldn't a brand spanking new Henry rifle start out pretty well centered?

    Thanks in advance,

    Josh

Since I don't know if they test fired it and actually made an adjustment to get windage zero'd, I'd shoot it and see if it is zero'd as is. If it is zero now then you can tap the dovetail on the sight to bring dot to mid sight. Since most 22LR don't get shot at long ranges where a lot of windage adjustment is needed, maybe Henry feels its good enough to have used some of the adjustment at the factory? If the action is smooth and barrel holds a good group then I wouldn't mind moving the sight in the dovetail, just takes a minute with a punch and hammer, but that's me.

I had the same rifle, I do what AlphaRomeo said first, then adjust later.

        Or boresight it first.

While it may be aesthetically pleasing to have it centered from the factory, it seems a lot of consternation on something rather trivial at this point.

I own a Golden Boy I would fire a few rounds and see if it's zeroed and you will know for sure I had to do a very slight adjustment to mine from the picture it looks off.

Says the rear sight is adjustable on the website, maybe you just need to turn the screw.

                sight

Had the same issue on a 41 mag lever gun... verify the screw holding the rear sight is snugged up... That fixed my problem... Good luck...

Weird it came from the factory off-centered. Adjust it it see how it shoots.

The screw is TO HOLD the rear sight in place. You turn (Counter CW-open) the screw enough to move the rear sight then tighten (CW-close) the screw to hold the rear sight in place.
it is difference from a regular adjustable rear sight, when you turn the adjust screw the rear sight go left or right, your rifle does NOT liked that.

That screw does not adjust windage. That screw is for holding the blade in place, and making minor adjustments to elevation after getting close with the notched ramp (aka elevator), if you want to be exact at a certain reference distance (25 or 50 yards being typical for a 22).

To adjust windage you knock the sight left or right in the dovetail.

So yes, adjust that blade so that it is centered in the buckhorn. It should always be centered in the buckhorn. Also the blade is probably way too low right now. Try adjusting it like this to start or just a tad lower.

Be careful not to crank on that screw too hard - you can easily shear the head off!!

You can loosen the screw and center the Diamond it is not for windage.
