SW model 41 vs Ruger MK III

    Hi folks,
Lately my interest has shifted over to .22's. Not that I don't have 22's but just got little fancy i guess. I am trying to decide between above two pistols. Currently I have ruger mk2 22/45 bull barrel that I enjoy but I want somethig fancier and more accurate. What are your opinions on these two models? Any Pros/Cons? Availability of accessories? Ease of cleaning? Which are more accurate? Please post your pics if you have any.
Thank you for all your help in advance.

I have only shot the SW41 and it is a very nice gun. It shoots better than me. There is one for sale on the board.

S&W M41 is a great pistol---the other one is made by Ruger. The only thing they have in common is they both shoot 22LR. Pete

I have not shot the Ruger, so I don't have any critical or complimentary remarks to make about that pistol. I have owned two Smith and Wesson Model 41s, and I regret selling the first one which is why I purchased another Model 41. The 41 has been one of the most common pistols used in bullseye competition at Camp Perry, which indicates that it is one of the better pistols around. Changing barrels on the Model 41 is easy, and there are several excellent barrel manufacturers who make barrels for the Model 41, and there are a number of exellent grips available.

is there any preference to certain model 41 over another? Or is there anything different in new production model 41?

I like the Supermatic Citation. Here is one variation...

"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine." - Thomas Jefferson

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!" - Ben Franklin

                I have a ruger Mk1, and 2 Mk2's. I also have a model 41 with a 5.5 bull barrel.
Althought the rugers are nice guns, the smith imho is far superior. Incredible trigger.

Some people feel that the earlier SW model 41 is more desireable. It has a little rod at the end of the slide that extends if there is a chambered round.

I've been very happy with mine. Its a wonderful break from shooting heavy loads and the paucity of recoil seems to have helped quite a bit with refining my trigger control.

                    Ruger MkIII v. S&W M41

The S&W Model 41 is over twice the price (MSRP) of any Ruger MkIII so most of the opinions above are justified. But you could get 2 Rugers for one Smith so maybe the question should be 2 Ruger MkIII versus 1 S&W M41. The answer would depend on the application. If you wanted to do some semi-competitive shooting, it would be M41. If you wanted to have an accurate plinking handgun and give one to your son or daughter for the same price, then MkIII.
