    Henry carbine vs youth model

I want to get a Henry lever action small enough for my young daughter to shoot. I like the carbine with the large loop lever. The youth model has the same length barrel, same weight but one inch shorter over all length. Does anyone know if the only difference is an inch less on the stock? The Henry website isn't that clear.

I added a pic of my Henry .22 pump with a vortex 2-7.

Henry Classic 22 Long Rifle Blued Lever Action Rifle - 18.5in - The Henry Lever Action is a classic Western-style lever action rifle, and one of the most popular .22’s on the market today. The reason for its popularity is because it shoots great, looks great and is remarkably affordable – about half the price of the competition’s rifles.

      And this?

Henry Compact 22 Long Rifle Blued Lever Action Rifle - 16.13in - The Henry Classic Lever Action Compact .22 is built to the same exacting standards and with the same high-quality materials as its larger counterpart, the H001 Classic Lever Action .22, Henry's most popular and best-selling model by far. Its popularity stems from the feature set that punches well above its pricetag, like the blued steel barrel, genuine American walnut buttstock and forearm, and the smoothest action you will find in any lever gun. This lightweight and compact version sports a reduced 13in length of pull and a carbine-length 16.125in barrel for an overall length of just 33in, making it just the right size for smaller frames to have a proper cheek weld and sight picture. Speaking of sights, the rear semi-buckhorn is fully-adjustable for windage and elevation and the front blade is shrouded for protection from the inevitable knock. For those who prefer to learn with some magnification, the receiver is grooved to accept a 3/8in scope base. Weight is an important consideration when choosing a rifle that someone will be learning with, and this rifle weighs in at only 4 ½ pounds, making it the lightest lever action Henry builds.

Barrel is 2.4” shorter and lop is an inch shorter on the youth model.

16.1” barrel and 13” LOP on the youth model.

13" LOP is too big for a young child. That is more suitable for a teenager or adult.

I went with a savage rascal for my 9 yr old daughter. It has a 11.25" LOP and weighs about 2.5 lbs. Fits her perfect and is light enough for her to handle and shoot unsupported.

I went with the Henry Youth Model for my son when he was about 9. It worked fine and like all Henry's I have tried, works very smoothly. The visible hammer is a great safety aid as you can easily see if the rifle is cocked or not. My son is now 22 and that Henry is bruised and battered from miles on his ATV. I cannot count how many rabbits, ground squirrels and prairie dogs that it has accounted for. I put a low powered scope on it so I have no input on the iron sights. To make it even cooler for him, I bought myself the full-sized version so we matched.

The stock is now too short for him, but he is keeping it for when he has children. Another option is to get a full-sized stock and have a handy little Trapper version.

Can you get a regular gun and then get a youth stock for it when he grows some.

Or even just get an extra stock, cut it down, and then install it. When he's big enough for the original full size stock, put it back on the gun. That way he'll have, and can use, his first gun his entire life.

Youth model also loads 12 whereas the H001 Classic loads 15. I've shot the youth model and i'll say I rather like the compact feeling of it but i've never shot the Classic. I'm 5' 11'
