Walmart sells guns?... -
in laramie wyoming.. the gun race was the whole back end up the store...Comment

I've got one, bought at the Mountain View Walmart back when they still sold guns, for $198 on sale (normally $215 back then). The pickup was a bit of an adventure, as you might guess.
This one had 2 features not found in the standard Ruger lineup, and was made specifically for WalMart. It's got a 22" barrel, not the standard 18.5" barrel, and it's got a beech stock that's checkered like the walnut stock. The stock number on the box is RUK1022-22 (K for stainless, -22 for 22" barrel).
It's a fine gun, though heavier than a standard 10/22. I put a walnut stock I had sitting around on mine at one point (making it even heavier), then switched to a synthetic stock to make it lighter.
It shoots pretty much like any 10/22. The extra barrel length gives a bit more sight radius, but not enough to be a big difference. I've got a scope on mine, anyway.sigpic

That's the one. A friend of mine has one that I am trying to buy. Seems like a very nice gun. I think Rosie O'Donnell had something to do with getting Walmart to stop selling them. You can't even buy ammo at the Contra Costa County Walmarts."You can't handle the truth"Comment

It was the DOJ and the fact that the employees could not fill out the paperwork correctly that got Wal-Mart out of the business of selling guns.
The fact you cannot buy ammo at the Contra Costa County stores I am pretty sure has to do with local ordinances.Comment

Walmart Ammo in California
Whether Walmart sells ammo or not varies by county/city in California. I can't buy it in Contra Costa, but can over the Altamont and buy it at the Tracy Walmart.
I've also bought ammo at the Walmart in Milpitas. (Santa Clara county)
I believe Alameda doesn't allow it either.
However, you can find it in some Bay Area Walmarts.Quemadmoeum gladuis neminem occidit, occidentis telum est.
