My father inlaw has a couple older guns he's looking to maybe sell. He's not sure of the value of these guns since he's had them for over forty years and he's never sold/consigned guns before. One is the Winchester Model 37 (single shot 20ga. break open shotgun) that he purchased around 1964. The other is a Winchester Model 47 (single shot bolt action .22 rifle) that he picked up in 1957. Both guns have no serial numbers since that wasn't required until many years later. They are both about 80-85% on the barrels....minor surface rust/missing bluing probably from being here on the coast for so long. The wood, though, is great with just a few dings...no cracks. Both fire flawlessly.
So my questions: Are these "cash & carry" potential purchases since they are so old? What are their approximate values? Gunbroker and other auction sites were all over the place value-wise. He called Turners and they wouldn't consign them since there were no serial numbers. Is he stuck with these? Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't want to tell him low numbers and find out later that they are actually worth more than $150 per gun.
