10/22 receiver options

Looking for a basic 10/22 receiver. Been looking at the Brownells receiver but wondering if there is anything comparable out there I should consider. Don't need anything fancy, just a plain old 10/22 receiver.

Only thing that compares to a $89 factory receiver (s&p Outfitters) would be the $89 Brownells flat top or $99 Brownells railed receiver.

Some other receiver options are KIDD, Tacticsl Solutions, Tactical Innovations, Grey Birch Solutions

You could have a pretty cheap 10/22 once you have the receiver. I don't think you would need to go through too many owners to have a complete rifle built from takeoffs!

Thompson Center has some real nice complete rifles. I don't know if they offer just receivers yet.

I have a couple builds around the non railed Brownells (they were discontinued for a while, but I just looked and they're back!), work fine, have a couple Pike Arms 80% with rails. Plus a couple factory Rugers.

You've got to DROS the Brownells through a FFL, shop around and find one that will do bare receivers, maybe at a "better" rate than complete guns, better yet, buy 2 or 3 at once so the fees are spread out instead of paying high fees for just one.

I think unless you spend a bunch for certain brand names, they all function basically the same. Some claim tighter tolerances, and there are some custom ones with left or rear charging, so there are options (for a price!)

An integrated rail can get in the way of factory sights, and won't work if you're building around certain stocks that enclose the receiver (P90 style bullpups and some "tactical" AR styles).

Beware though, it can easily become an addictive pastime and as soon as you have "spare" parts laying around they can breed like rabbits. I believe a 10/22 should come with a "gateway to gunsmithing addiction" warning label.

I was looking into this and picked up a new 10/22 from SW for $230. Ditched the stock, installed bx trigger and new stock with scope.

"Could" being the key word if i put together stock rifles.

I have both a railed and a takedown railed receiver, if you want to look at them and touch them.

You can get a stainless MOA Corp receiver that is threaded for around $150

...what'd you decide? I'm kinda in the same boat, but I've been thinking about the TD model for the novelty....impossible to find those on the cheap these days....
